I visited UCSD twice and it seemed like a typical university that I can get used to. What does it mean when one says, "UCSD isn't for everyone." Can someone elaborate on that and kinda give me an overview of how UCSD life is?

edit- can I also ask that do most UCSD students graduate in 4 years? I'm from Revelle and because we have so much GE requirements, I'm scared that I won't be able to graduate in 4 years, thanks

I think when people (like me) say that UCSD isn’t for every, we would generally be referring to that fact that most UCSD don’t go out and get totally **** faced every weekend and slutty ho bags aren’t running around everywhere giving out their slutty ho services, if I could sum it up like that. I’m not saying all other universities are like that, but UCSD is even less so. If that’s what you’re looking for, UCSD may not be for you.

thanks for replying to alot of my posts kingselite i know for a fact i’m not a party animal and I don’t drink and get crazy. UCSD sounds like a perfect learning environment lol, i am leaning towards it :)

@chismoso I’m just like you, im in revelle and I’m engineering major, I think you can take some of the HUM at a CC and AP/IB credits might help a bit but im mostly worried about what will happen to my GPA because of revelle

people don’t really go to events. i’m glad there aren’t many “ho bags” running around, but i’m disappointed that people don’t do much besides study on the weekends. the campus almost never feels vibrant and active, and i think it’s the students who cause that more than anything. i’m not even that extroverted, but i do expect people to turn out for cool events, and they just don’t. i appreciate how seriously students here take their education but UC Socially Dead is less myth and more truth than i’d like it to be.

that’s just my two cents; i still like this school and the people here. if you find your niche (usually in the form of research, an org or a job), you will be just as happy here as anywhere else. that’s the thing about college: as long as you have a positive outlook and make an effort to meet people, you are almost guaranteed to make friends and be happy. just be warned that at UCSD, you have to seek out relationships and activities much more proactively than you do at most other schools. and you will have those days where you’re frustrated with the lack of spirit and participation and want to give up. but if you’re looking for a quiet environment that facilitates studying, nice people, and plentiful research opportunities in the sciences, it doesn’t get much better than UCSD. we also have great theatre & dance, political science, computer science, economics and psychology programs (i’m surely missing a few). and every time i walk to the cliffs/beach with my college friends, it just makes me grateful to be at this school. :)

I’ve seen my share of these mythical creatures you refer to as ‘ho-bags’. They don’t roam on campus very blatantly because they are scared of the common nerd. On occasion, they commandeer a whole corner in the Geisel Fortress/Spaceship. A lot of times they just wear jeans and sweat pants as to not give up their camouflage. However, if you venture into the the party realm you will find your share. Also, by no means is it like UCSB where they roam a plenty.
