I’m actually very disappointed that someone would do this, only to increase their chances of being admitted. I mean, think about the integrity of your application: would you rather be admitted knowing it was because of you being 100% honest and confident within yourself or because you changed yourself up only to appeal to the admissions committee? Also, it is very disrespectful to assume that posing as African American will increase your chances of admission when they are the least represented on any UC campus.
Unfortunately for you, however, race isn’t a determining factor in admission decisions.
Universities can absolutely rescind admissions after a student has lied about ethnicity.
First, for the obvious reason that you have lied on a formal document, which nullifies all legal binding. The only party who can take legal action when you lie on an application is the opposing organization. In the case of universities, they can and have revoked degrees as a result of students submitting false information on their applications. This not something to take lightly.
Additionally, the idea that the only reason why universities care about demographics is to fill quotas is wildly ignorant. There are number of fields such as law, social sciences, etc, where departments actively seek out underrepresented groups to fill in areas in which they feel that their research is lacking. Diversity is more beneficial than giving disadvantaged groups a seat in a class.
Lies on undergraduate applications often go unnoticed because admissions counselors often never interact with students after their application is evaluated. But continue to tell those lies when applying to graduate school, where instructors play a big role in the admissions process, and figures on campus will comment about how they loved reading your personal statements to your face. See how long it takes before you are met with expulsion.
@Solstice1 yes I did and I talked to a lady from admissions and she said yes as long as long you followed the requirements, which I’m worried about math because I believe it was supposed to be done by fall and I’m finishing up the requirement this semester, but we’ll see.
@bren22baca you’ll be fine. I had friends last year that got accepted with U-link that didn’t finish either the physics series, Chem series, or what not. The contract only really mentions that you have to have the basic math, English, and whatever and have a 3.0gpa. I thought the same about having to finish all my classes, but once my friends got in after doing the bare minimum I realized it was just the gpa.
@Solstice1 Well, I hope so because Math is not my strong suit so just like your friends I would be going in with the bare minimum, but when I submitted my application it said I had met all the requirements even for math, but I still need upper calc. Most likely they’ll review all the U-link applications at the same time, correct? That would make sense to me. So if anyone that applied with U-link receives a decision let us all know !!!
@PreMedSci16 I am not sure if this is still the case, but when I was looking into the U-link program it said that they guaranteed admission to UCSD but not to your major. I’m guessing that if you don’t get accepted to your major then they would just take you as undeclared.
@PreMedSci16@LopApo Yeah you’re guaranteed admission if you satisfy U-link but if your major is impacted then maybe you’ll be accepted into your second choice or undeclared. It’s weird because last year everyone with U-link got their admission decision in the first batch, so it’s a little nerve wrecking to be waiting haha.
I think it’s student.uscd.edu
Sign in once you’re there, and you should see a tab or button that says mytritonlink
You use the same sign in as your application sign in
I am at CCC Transfer
Major: Sociology and Economy
GPA: 4.0
EC: lots
UCSD: Accepted with Regents
Pending: UCD, UCLA ,UCB, USC
I heard all transfers that were accepted in the first release of applicants were regent scholars.
No engineering major students that I know have received a reply from UCSD.
@Solstice1 No I’m in Cal1 and I’m supposed to get to Calc2 but now that I think about it I think my counselor said it was ok to take it over there. Im a Psych major specializing in clinical psych, so I don’t think it will be a big of a deal, unless my counselor screwed me over aha
