An admissions rep told me they’ll be released between mid-march and mid-april, probably like April 18?
@sbrapunzel I’m guessing earlier. Berkeley’s date is set for April 24th, and @Cayton mentioned that UCLA releases their decisions a week before UCB consistently (so April 17th may be the date for UCLA, but who knows) - I think SD will be a bit earlier than LA, but I could be wrong.
As I recall last two years UCSD and UCLA released on the same day (after one weak early UCSD roll-out early on both years). I know 100% they released on same day in 2014 and am pretty sure they did in 2015.
Do you guys think it is possible to get accepted with these stats? How about waitlisted? I’m super anxious to find out and I’m worrying so much about it.
Major: Political Science - International Relations
-UC GPA: 3.38
-Major GPA: 4.0 still if I keep up my A’s this semester

I’m back, and ready to help anyone going through the application process. A quick back story about me, I was accepted to UCSD and UCLA for the fall class of 2014. I eventually decided to go to UCSD after changing my mind a million different times. I really learned a lot here and gain some perspective, so if you have any questions on just about anything, go ahead and ask me. I’m also familiar with the CSE and Econ department!
@collegedropout1, OMG, the return of the prodigal son!
And he’s not kidding. He changed his mind about campus (and major) everyday for three months and, as I recall, SIR’d to both! I might add he’s been the funniest up here, ever… (Or at least the last two years.)
How’s it going? @cayton still comes up here and a few others pop in and out…
@CollegeDropout1 Hi! Why did you decide to go with UCSD vs. UCLA? Are you majoring in Econ? If so, isn’t UCLA’s econ department better than UCSD’s?
hi guys! how do you know your essay is like a 9/10? like how do you know what to rate it as? Do personal statements save you even though your gpa is like … average? like 3.3…
@lindyk8 YES, I’M BACK! I missed this place too much, it holds so many memories! The funniest in the last two years? I think you’re forgetting about @BurntCorpse ! Haha, I’m reading some of the old threads and they’re hilarious! I’m glad a few people still pop up, but it’s sad that most of them are now gone. But anyway, she’s right! I kept on changing my mind about everything! Those were some good times. I hope you and your daughters are doing well!
@pugzandhugz I decided to go to UCSD because of my major. At the time, I wanted to major in CS, but I got accepted to UCLA as a humanities major and as a CS major at UCSD. Economics was my back up major, and I couldn’t major in that either at UCLA, so I picked UCSD after months of contemplation. It was a tough choice, but I made the right call.
Well I can’t personally say which department is better since I’ve only taken classes at UCSD, but I can tell you that both are very well respected and you won’t be at a disadvantage if you pick one over the other. I know it’s probably not what you want to hear, but don’t pay attention to the rankings. Do some research on the departments, find out which classes they offer, their cultures, and which one can better help you reach whatever goals you may have. You really don’t want to base your choice of school on some magazine saying that one school is better than the other.
I will say that UCSD’s economics department is very adamant about avoiding grade inflation. The median grade in most classes really is a B-, so that means half of the grades received are C’s and below. UCSD also has a lot more quantitative economics classes. A lot of economics students also like to minor in business, which is a minor UCLA does not have. You also have to keep in mind that to maintain your place in the economics department at UCLA, a GPA of 3.3 is require in certain weeder classes. A good chunk of students that transfer to UCLA as an economics major don’t stay in it. Just like anything in life, there are pros and cons, so do your research carefully.
@collegedropout1 right. I can’t forget @burntcorpse! That was when I first started coming up here. It really was a fun crew - although not everyone took it quite as well as others, as I recall. X( B-) >:)
Gonna copy over my post from the UCD threat with a few tweaks…

Suggestions and feedback would be greatly appreciated; if anyone has questions feel free to ask!
One of my concerns is that due to some personal problems I might be forced to drop two classes this quarter. Is there anything I can do to remedy the issue, like calling ahead to UCSD and telling them about my situation, or should I just sit back and see what happens?
@Skivar I’m actually applying as a CS major as well. I emailed their admissions office and they told me that they screened their applicants last year based on the calculus series and linear algebra. Also, they mentioned taking a computer programming class(es) equivalent to their CSE8A/8B or CSE 11, if your cc offers it.
On the bright side, they might not use the same classes to screen their applicants(what they told me), but I doubt it because almost every cc offers the calculus series and linear algebra, so it’s fair for all students.
Ah okay… I do have all of the CS classes either already done or set to be completed by spring. Worst case scenario I’ll take another year to complete my math and try again. Thank you for the reply!
@Skivar You will need those math classes.
@CollegeDropout1 nice! thanks for the info! Hopefully I get in!
@CollegeDropout1 Can you please tell me more about the CSE department at UCSD? I’m planning to transfer as a computer engineering (preferably) or CS major. How is the quality of education specifically at CSE? I’ve read reviews of horrible TAs teaching which scares me quite a lot.
Also, UCSD has a reputation of being socially dead. What is your opinion on that as a student? I’m hoping to get a traditional college experience, and does UCSD offer the experience? (I have heard about students at UCSD complaining about the campus life, and that worries me) Do you enjoy your time being at UCSD?
What about the internship or job opportunities there? How easy/hard is it to get internships for CSE majors?
Anyone know why they ask for your CA SSID? It’s optional. Does it just show what schools you’ve attended or would it let them see H.S. grades/class rank?
Sorry this is kind of random, but I’m hoping to transfer from UCSB and was wondering if I can take upper-division classes at UCSB. It only says that lower divisions will be transferred but I don’t want to screw myself up by delaying all my upper div requirement if I end up having to stay at UCSB.
Also it stated that 105 units was the maximum for lower division…so does that i mean i can go over 105 unit limit if I take upper divs?
Sorry, I am really confused… Please help me out (:
I toured UCSD yesterday and I got to see the Village West and I was less than impressed. It didn’t look much like their pictures online. The tour guide also said that as a new transfer it’s rare to get a double and really rare to get a single. It kind of made me rethink living there if I get accepted. It’s also like $20 cheaper to live in one of the apartments run by one of the 6 colleges which are at least mostly singles and doubles. I really don’t want a triple but I could deal with a double. I thought it might be better to do that and go Greek so I don’t miss out on the tight-knit community aspect and make it easier to make friends. One of the students there said there’s a sorority (I think AOPi) that prides themselves on their number of transfer students.
I also want to be pretty good friends with my roommates. Does someone know if there’s a question that covers that in the roommmate questionnaires?
