UCSD Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

@Fhot112 1. How do you know there is a hard cut-off? 2. How would any applicant know what the cut-off is?

@d4rkr4in if you’re talking about GPA cut-off, the cut-off will be at a 3.5 GPA. Back in November, I have called a counselor in UCSD, and that’s what he said. He may be right, but I don’t think it applies to all majors.

@d4rk4in https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major shows your the major ranges of accepted students in previous years. I am unsure if there is a specific cut off but I think this would be a good guideline to what GPA’s are sufficient!

I honestly know nobody who has gotten any decision from UCSD yet. I am confused because I was expecting a rolling basis of applications… do any of you know a SINGLE person who has gotten in as a transfer?

Nah, dont know anyone that got a decision yet… and for the gpa cutoff i dont think thats true! An admissions officer told me if I had a 3.5 gpa i shouldnt worry, but they also accept people around 3.1 and 3.2… just look at past threads cause they have those gpas

UCSD hasn’t been rolling in past years I don’t think

I think the “cutoff GPA” is just for applicants to capped majors.

Also, in the past, UCSD released transfer acceptances for some applicants to non-capped majors at the same time that they release freshman decisions. All other decisions were then released in April at the same time. I’m guessing this year they’re just going to be releasing all decisions at the same time this month; no rolling decisions.

does anyone know if communications is a capped major?? I tried searching it and I know it doesn’t show on the list of capped majors on the UCSD website, but I’ve read elsewhere that it is

@nutalleuh Comm is not; I believe the only capped majors are engineering and maybe some other life/ physical sciences

So I have a 3.37 gpa, is it even possible to get in for CS major?

I’m assuming when they say 3.5 it’s the average (on the website posted as 3.56) but that doesn’t mean if you don’t hit that you won’t get in, and it also doesn’t mean as long as you have a 3.56 you will get in. GPAs very by major, and don’t forget a good PIQ could go a long way. Stay positive everyone! Results are just around the corner…deep breaths

any chem majors in the building?
do any of y’all think I have a chance to get in. I have a 3.42 and i’m going for chem. I’m uc-uc transfer. I am between the gpa ranges but I kinda choked the last two quarters. Feeling extremely anxious and stuff.

The whole non-capped majors getting acceptances early is kind of a wash. I know many of us who were in non-capped majors (I’m visual arts, non-capped, extremely high GPA) who got our acceptances in late April. I honestly think it’s random. Don’t stress it. You’ll hear back this month (if that’s any consolation).

I got an acceptance email on Saturday March 11th last year – haven’t gotten anything yet this year. Knowing no one else on here has gotten anything yet is the only thing keeping me sane. I’m a CCC transfer student, but have been out of school since 2013 (I applied last year but was asked to stay on at work for another year, so had to decline and reapply). 4.0 GPA and work history here in San Diego, non-capped major… but still. Here’s hoping for good news on 4/20 [-O<
