I don't quite understand why people complain about the campus being dead at night and on the weekends, I doesn't matter if you see a lot of people walking around or not. But it would make sense that it would be 'dead' in the later hours. UCSD's campus is 1200 acres while UCLA's campus is 400 acres and Berkeley's main campus is only 200 acres. Plus UCLA (25900) and Berkeley (24600) enroll a few thousand more undergrads than UCSD (22000) so of course you aren't going to see as many people walking around cause the population density is much lower at UCSD than at either Berkeley or UCLA. Also keep in mind that most undergrads live off campus (35% live on campus) so only 7700 undergrads are even going to be on campus later (not accounting for those who live on campus but are off campus at the moment or asleep when one might be walking around).

I am not going to argue whether UCSD is a commuter school or not but if you consider UCSD to be a commuter campus then so is UCLA and Berkeley. While only 35% of UCSD undergrads live on campus, 36% of UCLA undergrads live on campus and 35% of Berkeley undergrads live on campus.

LOL @ drew ...asian party=internet cafe or something??

^^ lol, instead of bring your own booze, it's bring your own USB cord.

w tf?

aight. dont come crawling when you get that yellow fever and wanna hit up the asian b itches.

you'll see when u get here...

well fact is then you're stuck with only girls at ucsd....I've got the REST of San Diego

mathtastic: berkeley's dorms are pretty much "off-campus"...no one actually lives on campus, as in, wake up and walk 3 minutes to class. everyone has to walk a few blocks through the city to get to school...just saying. i think that builds an interesting community, don't you think? :)

and ucla's off-campus housing is so expensive that a lot of people opt to live on-campus anyway. and arent they trying to build enough housing to support 100% on-campus housing?

^ Did you know that to attend Harvard you MUST live on campus, no exceptions. They say it adds to the college atmosphere or some crap like that, and it's the reason they wont allow transfer students, not enough on campus housing for them. I wonder what their social/party life is like

erm .... my friend transferred out after our sophomore year from UCSD --> harvard. dunno about her housing status, but she definitely left for cambridge ... and graduated two years later.

Yea, but your sophomore year was like 5 years ago? They've disallowed transfer students the past two years and are continuing until at least '10.

Fuuck yo. I LOVE to party, and this school seems like it's gonna be such a draggg.

I mean, I've lived in SD all my life and the party life is great here.. but it seems like UCSD is square centeral haha...

So much for a college experience right?

Shoulda sent my acceptance letter to Fuuckin UCSB :/.

^ If you like to party and are a social person, I doubt it'll be much of a problem. Not every single person at UCSD stays away from partying.

Let's hope I can find the right crowd of people :].

I did everything I could on my housing form to make sure I get a roommate who would be down to party. Let's hope it works...

mathtastic_nerd just served this thread.

edit: (just = 2 months ago >_<)

Its true, its up to you on how much you want to party. Yeah it takes a bit of work at UCSD. You actually have to make friends, go to parties, and if your lucky enough to be over 21 go to PB and downtown.

I am alumni, so I know what you mean about the social life at UCSD. I used to complain it as well when I was there. Fact is most students, especially Revelle, are working there asses off to get grades and make it into Med school. If the only reason to go to UCSD was to party, its a bad place.

I live in LA and grew up pretty much on UCLA campus, and Westwood. If your not in a frat at UCLA or bigger “party” schools your assed out. UCSD the environment was so much more open and down to earth.

The main issue is there not one place where UCSD students live at besides on campus. Trust me live in PB, and you will get an amazing time.

We had one hella of time down in SD, tearing most of those places up. The party scene is much better in SD than LA. Your hanging in cool sounding places, but the people are better.

Enjoy it, makes the most of everday, and when in doubt go party SDSU or TJ, haha.

at ucsd it’s not an extreme party scene but you’ve got so many options, surf, concerts, then parties. at other schools there is so much social inequality–you’d have to know a bro to get in a hot party. not so much at ucsd, the social tiers between greeks and non-greeks are closer. more people get a chance to get in on the action.

here’s what i like. tons of on campus concerts almost weekly (great for indie kids and hipsters). just got wasted 3 nights in a row, and i just wrapped up monday night pong at my place. saturday night i was at a pretty legit dance at porter’s pub sandwiched by 7 girls (but not at the same time–i’m not that awesome; 3 good lookin blondes, 4 ladyfriends).

i go to all my classes, attend quite a few office hours, work a lot, and enjoy what i do–parties on the weekends are what i look forward to. i’m not a hot blonde guy, nor am i greek–i am a skinny asian.

here’s the one thing you get from me if anything at all. the social scene at ucsd is dead if you’re a loser. and if you’re a loser, you’d probably be one at ucsb or usc just the same.

for those of u who think that there is no party scene here u are sorely mistaken. the first night i moved in i ended up at two frat parties that were both freaking crazy. they were house parties on campus but they were pretty close by. especially if u live in the La Jolla townhomes, there is a party whenver u want. then the next night, after a kick as dance party thrown by the actual school, there were multiple parties right off campus. i personally ended up at a chill lamda sig party. so if want it its there, just dont expect it to come up and bite u in the ass.

Nice Bump 10 char

There are a few big parties, and a ton of kickbacks if you know people. Don’t let anyone tell you UCSD is socially dead, because it isn’t if you don’t want it to be.
