I am interested in applying for TAG for UCSD next year. I transfered from Long Beach State to a community college this semester. The TAG FAQ states that to be a considered a community college student and eligible for TAG, I need to be at a community college for at least 2 terms. Does this mean I would have needed to be at a community college for two terms before I submit the TAG application, or two terms before I would get into the school? By the time I transfer I will have taken 30+ units at a CC and will have been there for 3 semesters. Does that make me eligible for TAG?

lawlking, you might be right, but to me the wording is ambiguous. It is not clear from the word “eligible” as to whether they are talking about what you must have when you submit the application, as opposed to what you must have completed by the end of the spring term prior to entering UCSD. On the matrix at http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/counselors/files/ETS11_TAGMatrix_rev070111.pdf is specifically discusses what you must have to submit and later to fulfill a TAG application. For submit it just says 30 UC xferable semester units, nothing about where you must have earned them. To fulfill it says 60 UC xferable units (which is what gives you junior standing) and the document also says “The University of California defines a CCC transfer student as one who has completed over half of their units at a CCC. All UC TAG campuses require students to meet this definition.”

And on the UCSD website they say
Again, they don’t say anything specifically about whether you need to have been at a CCC for 2 semesters prior to applying to UCSD or not.

Bottom line is I wouldn’t say I’m convinced I’m right about what you have to have before you can even file a TAG app, but I haven’t seen anything yet that makes me sure I am wrong. I suggest that any student contemplating TAG after attending a 4-year college talk with admissions at the UC schools they are interested in; and by “talk” I mean email or write because this is stuff you definitely want in writing!
