Is this possible? How hard is it? Is it easier than community college?

That's what I'm planning to do also.

Its possible. It is harder than transferring from a CC.

According to the UCLA website in 2006 they admitted 45% of those applying from a community college, 32% from other UC campuses, and 15% from all other Calif schools. See http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof06.htm

Keep in mind, too, that you can only apply to xfer as a junior, so you'll be spending 2 years at UCSD.

its been done before, but as mike said, its really hard.

how hard is it?
what type of GPA or scores do you need?

Would it be hard if I tried to transfer from Cal (do a lot of people do that?) or does it not matter what UC you're transferring from?

i don't think it matters what UC you're transferring from, but im guessing its harder to get INTO Cal than say Merced.

my friend who is in polisci says the ppl told him he needs at least a 3.6? but im sure they look at other stuff like your essays. "why do you want to transfer" is probably a question on there im guessing cus it makes sense to ask. you cant say.."cus la/cal is more fun and sd sucks"..so yeah. i could imagine if you are a econ major wanting to transfer to cal, you can say cal has a business major whereas sd doesnt. b/c of the rep of the business major at cal it will offer you more options, etc...

but really, give sd a chance! you havent even started school yet, you might just like it. keep an openmind and dont be dead set on transferring. cus if ur deadset then you will be like "haha..screw sd im gonna be out of here in 2 yrs, screw you all! i hate this place!" but then what happens when ur transfer thing gets denied..then you have to spend 2 more years in the hell you just created for yourself the past 2 yrs of your college life..wouldnt u be miserable then? i would try to accept sd and apply for transfer, but if it doesnt work out, at least you have accepted sd. its really not that bad.

I did it.

I hated UCSD to the core, so I got off my ass and did everything I needed to do to transfer to UCLA.

haha no i love san diego. i lived in san diego for 4 years. it's just that, im planning on going to dental school and UCLA has a good dental school over there.... sigh, too bad they only accepted 88 out of like 1200 applicants

That's insane. I'm surprised that Pre-Dental doesn't have the same cut-throat reputation of Pre-Med and Pre-Law.

i did it too. there are soo many reasons why i dont like ucsd, and they came in handy for the essays. im poli sci with a 3.35 gpa so you dont need a 3.6, but im pretty active in student orgs. its prob a pretty holistic (or otherwise random) acceptance process. i know of pretty different people who were accepted.

it's very possible. i currently go to UC Irvine and was recently accepted to UCLA as a transfer poli sci major with a 3.6. Inter-UC transfers are a bit more difficult than CC transfers because CC applicants get priority, and UC students are considered after all CC files have been reviewed/decided. but it is very possible (even from a mid-tier UC like mine) according to some stats from the UCLA website, the avg. gpa for inter-UC admits is 3.48 (2006 data). and UCLA recommends at least a 3.2.

If you do plan on attending UCSD and transferring to UCLA, it would also behoove you to complete all your General Ed./Breadth reqs. while at UCSD. This is because of the UC Reciprocity policy which stipulates that if you complete all gen ed/breadth requirements (at your pre-transfer UC) before transfer, you are automatically exempt from gen ed/breadth requirements at UCLA and can focus on your major courses. this is particularly helpful and will benefit you. my advice would be to keep your grades up and go for it. hope this helps.

I just found out that I got into Cal as well, so like I said it's definitely possible (even from a mid-tier UC like mine)

Hey UCKid,

Are you a second year transfer? How hard is it to transfer to UCLA/Cal after one year? I know you have to have junior standing but will the fact that you're transferring after one year put you on the backshelf? Meaning.. would you given priority after the second year transfers?

I'm asking for friends btw, I'm completely satified with going to UCSD but I know a couple of friends who are really determined to transfer after one year and they'd like to know how possible it is.

Did y'all know that the UCLA Juggler Chris Smith transferred from UCSD to UCLA starting in his sophomore year?

Last I checked, his original Facebook page was still up from UCSD, under his real name, while he had a second facebook page under the name "juggler" for UCLA.

i'm gonna miss that dude. working with him at colorguard practice was hilarious :D
WHY MUST HE GRADUATE???????
sigh class of '11 is gonna miss out xD
