@CollegeDropout1, ha yah I remember, what’s your first choice school?

@Bhav007 I still debating about which school to got to, I am leaning towards UCLA

I just submitted my waitlist opt-in statement. I definitely work best under pressure, just beat the clock by two minutes.

@CollegeDropout1 lol…I’d think it’d be pretty obvious for someone to go to ucla if they got in…why put yourself on the waitlist for ucsd dude? But I think I saw a post from you on the ucla thread that your ucla acceptance might be rescinded due to your latest grades not being up to par…now I get it lol. Well…there’s nothing wrong with taking precautions for a back up plan dude. I appealed ucla so if I get in I will take myself off this waitlist. A 5% chance I’m aware, but I have hope. Nonetheless I totally hope you can receive the right grades finishing up spring strong, so that you can get into ucla. Would be a bummer if you missed out after all of your hard work…don’t you agree???

@Kyle2015 My grades are just fine. I was just worried that my admission would get rescinded for dropping 12 units out of the 32 I was talking-- It didn’t. I am just putting myself on the waitlist because the choice is NOT obvious. If I go to UCLA, the I would major in statistics, if i go to UCSD, then I would major in computer science. That is a very big difference. Jealous? I think so!

@CollegeDropout1 lol jealous? Haha I think not. But I am glad to hear you got into ucla. But on the other hand, if going to ucla=majoring in stats…then I’d highly approve of you to choose ucsd. Lol, I only say that because math is boring as hell…but if you like it then hey…there’s more than one way to cut the cake.

Did anyone else appeal their decision? I am on the wait list but I filed an appeal, as well. My daughter was recently diagnosed with Epilepsy. Moving so I could attend a school was never an option, but I was considering commuting to UCLA or UCI (I got into both). Now UCLA is definitely out of the question, and UCI probably is, too. But I am going to make the drive up there next week to see how bad it is. I just really don’t want to be 1+ hours away from my daughter in the event of an emergency (we have been in the ER 4 times since Feb, although she seems stable on her meds now). She has to see her doctor often at Rady’s (he is also a professor at UCSD) and she is participating in a UCSD med study. I would probably have to have her sitter take her to a lot of her appointments if I am in Irvine all the time, especially since my husband is gone for work all the time. Sorry, I am a bit off topic but I just need to vent!

I just filed my appeal last night, I hope they respond quickly. The stress is killing me!

@knhofto So sorry to hear that…
Wish you the best of luck for her health!

I really hope I get off the waitlist. If I don’t, then I will end up at UCSB which is fine, except that I will only be considered a pre major for econ/ accounting. At UCSD, I would get directly into my major, so it would be less stressful.

Yeah I really want to get in, I don’t really want to go to Santa Barbara or Davis lol.

@eastbaytransfer, why not?

@bhav007 Actually I just worded it wrong. They’re excellent schools, but I just really want to go to UCSD haha. I just haven’t visited either SB or Davis so I don’t really feel connected to those schools I guess, so my opinion could easily change. I’m probably going to SIR to UCSB at this point though.

@eastbaytransfer, UCSB seems like a fun school haha. I didn’t apply there because my GPA is 3.47, and I would be missing like 4-5 prereqs. I SIR’d to Davis last night, but if I get into UCSD from waitlist I’ll think about about it. It looks like you are from the bay area, same here.

Just checked my UCSD admission status after opting into the wait list and filing my subsequent appeal a few weeks ago. I got in! I honestly thought the appeal was a long shot but I’m glad I did it. I already submitted my SIR, gonna be a Triton! Good luck to everybody!

They didn’t accept my appeal…wow UCSD admission officers are really ■■■■■■■■ LOL…I don’t know why it’s hard for them to be a little more understanding toward my situation, and I really don’t know why this foreign transcript things is such a big deal over there…off to UCI.

^UCI teaches Python vs Java as beginning language. Google likes to hire people with Python. My daughter has to learn Python on her own this summer.

@studentmiller Congratulations on becoming a Triton! That was a really quick response from UCSD. Hopefully we all get prompt responses too

@DrGoogle: Does your daughter work at Google?! where did she go to school?!
I don’t think once you learn the fundamentals of OOP programming, it’d be hard to learn another programming language…I learned HTML/CSS on my own, but I guess Python is harder…

No, she’s only a freshman at UCSD. She did learn Python( but not thoroughly) at a summer program at MIT. But lots of companies are hiring interns that know Python, so I was thinking you might be luck out by going to UCI where the first programming language is Python and not Java like UCSD which her friend at UCI told her about. So to pick up the slack, she has to learn it by herself to be competitive for internships, not this summer but next summer. This summer she is already booked to study abroad in Europe.

Good stuff, CS is really going to be an amazing field, I’m glad I have interest in it.
and where you get hired at the end and how good you’ll be at your job will really depend on you than the university you attend I believe.
wellll, good luck for those on the waitlist. screw tritons, go anteaters LOOL
