<p>Hi everyone,
Is anyone who has been accepted to UCSD thinking about living at The Village? The Village is the on campus housing for transfer students.</p>

<p>I think I am if I don’t get into UCLA or UCB. Do you know what the process of registering for housing is?</p>

<p>Same as Kobe–if I dont get into Cal or UCLA, I’ll be in the Village. They just opened the second phase in February. Some of us will likely be the first occupants of our rooms this fall.</p>

<p>^which would be so, so awesome. I’m actually really looking forward to potentially living in the Village if i dont get into berk.</p>

<p>Yup. I’ll be moving to The Village in the summer as early as possible. I sent in that preliminary housing app already.</p>

<p>is there any difference between village west and east? is one better than the other?</p>

<p>The West is closer to the beach and older (it opened 2-3 years ago.) The East is brand new and only about 100 yards from the West. I haven’t been in the East yet, but I did the West tour last year and it was really nice.</p>

<p>Yeah, The Village looks super nice. I have my eye on a single-room somewhere in The Village East for this fall, preferably a high up floor. Plus I’m 21 so we’ll be able to have alcohol in the apartment! Fun, fun, fun.</p>

<p>Yeah there’s no chance at all I’m doing a double. I’m 23, not 17. And yeah there will always be drinks available at my place haha.</p>

<p>Exactly. I probably could have put up with a double for a while if I was a freshman admit, young and straight out of high school, but not now. I really hope the singles don’t fill up. Looking at the village east floorplans they seem to be almost entirely singles, whereas the village west is almost entirely doubles.</p>

<p>I wish they admitted bio majors already so I could submit my housing app and relax.</p>

<p>When I was talking to the Village tour girl last year (before East was open) she said that the system operates on a “lottery” basis. You get to pick your room based upon your number. However, she did say that due to a lack of people wanting doubles, they were simply renting out doubles rooms as singles and still had rooms left over. The possibility that you could get a mid-year double roommate still existed, however. But yeah, no way am I doing a double. Not a chance.</p>

<p>It costs like $50 more per month. The room is also slightly smaller, but your per capita square footage is still greater with a single.</p>

<p>what about meeting people? would people in the double exclude you because they already formed a relationship with their roommates?</p>

<p>I believe the housing system <em>is</em> a lottery already.</p>

<p>I can’t imagine why anyone would want a double, especially since the cost is almost the same. Also, I’m pretty sure being in a double doesn’t make it easier to meet people than being in a single. Well, except for that person you’re sharing the room with in a double. But then again, if you plan on bringing girls back to your room (which I wholeheartedly do)… single’s the way to go, haha.</p>

<p>I know they’ve used a lottery for selection, but with the East village opening, any idea if transfers are now guaranteed housing?</p>

<p>That’s a huge factor for me personally, I don’t want to live off campus my first year there, and the apartments are sweet!</p>
