UCSD's The Village

20 as a junior. Should’ve been 18, but I messed up and chose stupid business for first 2 years at a csu. I have a lot of units but they are nearly worthless since I’m a computer sci major now :/

^ i know how you feel man. Just be glad your not starting off at a cc beginning this fall. those kids are going to have it tougher then us.

as far as the village goes, just so you all know, last year they ran out of single bedrooms 15 minutes after registration began lol. A double room is over $1,000 a month…They just finished building the village east. I think the first people will move in the rooms in the summer or fall.

^^does that mean most people will get a double? I thought there were a lot more single rooms

Almost all transfers last year got doubles because the people staying their second year grabbed all of the singles. It might be different this year because the village east is opening. My registration appointment was literally one hour after people started registering for rooms, and I couldn’t get a single room.

Crap. That is super disappointing to hear about the single rooms. I can see why they made The Village East mostly singles now.

Would there be any way to check how many singles are available before actually putting down money or whatnot? If my only option is a double I’ll be living off campus instead.

@andyhb85

How to do you know that seriously? People need to stop making assumptions about things they don’t know.

@Calimade what are you talking about? I was telling you what happened to me last year.

@SDhopeful Here is what happened to me. I put my money down, then I found out there were no singles so I didn’t sign up for a room and got all of my money back. If you put your money down then sign up for a double room then change your mind, they will keep around half of your deposit ~300 or so i believe.

@andy

So you live off campus now? Can you provide details? That’s sort of my backup plan as well, albeit far less convenient.

someone tell me what the hell is so bad about a double room? why does everyone need singles? so you can be cooped up in your room alone and jack off? be social and have a roommate. whats the big deal?

^ Because we are grown adults, most of us are 21+ not 17. And if you need a room mate to be social I think your the one who needs help in the social setting.

I’ve never had to share a room ever, and being in my 20s, I’m not looking to start now. I have a boyfriend who I plan on having come over pretty often, and we like to sleep bareass. I am pretty social, and I dont need a roomate to “help” me or whatever the hell. Lastly, I’m not a fan of loud music, snoring, and as you so tastefully put it, walking in on a roomate jacking off. Do you need more? Is that enough?

Not everyone can have single room… either find a friend and go off campus or deal with it lol its that simple.

^ we know that. Its just for most of us our preference is to have a single.

Ofcourse a lot of people want a single, but just be ready for roommate because obviously not everyone is gonna have singles! Well in that case good luck to people who’s going for single room.

yeah dude, we KNOW it’ll be close to a miracle if we do get our singles, but we’re just SAYIN its what we want. If I don’t get one then obviously I’m probably going to live off campus, or absolute worst case scenario, live with a roomate. yeeeeeeeeesh

edit: thanks for the luck atleast.

they should just allow people to buy out the doubles. i would gladly pay 2x if it meant i get my own room + the extra space of a double compared to a single

^ You really would pay $20400 for a double to keep to your self?

On the brochure a double is around $10200 a year and single around $11000 a year. ***?

Its only about $800 cheaper for a double which is a complete rip come on UCSD. REALLY we will be sharing a room with another person for a whole year and only save $800. seriously…
They are definitely making double the profit on those doubles.

AT LEAST make it $2000 cheaper if we have to share space with someone a whole freaking year.

COME ONE UCSD i’m reaching out to you.

Yeah, they should make it $3,000 more for a single. I’ll pay whatever, so I don’t care about that, but it would push that out of range for a good chunk of people, therefore freeing up more room for me :D
