UCSD's The Village

haha reading this thread and all the people hating on younger students isn’t really reassuring me for next year… I’m gonna be 18 when I transfer. I guess that’s why I really don’t care single or double wise

I’m 20, a bit older than you, but I really don’t care if i get a single or a double.

Looks like I’ll be one of the older guys seeing as I’m already 23, good luck with singles ey? I wouldn’t call it hating on younger students but, there is a a difference between the 17-20s and the 21+ on average, and I’d much prefer older roommates around my age if given that choice.

On a side note, seems the last time I was on this account was 04-18-07, time sure flies…

^I’ll be 23 when I start at UC (22 now, birthday in June).

I hope they group students intelligently. It wouldn’t make sense to have four 19 year old Bio majors in an apartment with a 23 year old History major. There should be at least some similarities between the flatmates.

In a former life I lived in a dorm room with three other guys. It was actually surprisingly fun, but I wouldn’t want to do it again now. I want to be able to sleep at my convenience, and not worry about disturbing someone else’s sleep. If I don’t get a single I’ll almost certainly live off-campus (unless they drop the double price significantly–I can be swayed when presented with a financial motivation).

I’m 23 and I’ll be 24 in October.

Hey, we’re 3/5 of the way to an apartment. Pity incoming transfers can’t request roommates (afaik).

Yeah, that does suck. Plus we’d have to have 2 willing to double up :P

Haha, yeah I’m a little surprised they don’t allow new transfers the ability to choose their own roommates, my guess is that it’s to keep new transfers from getting priority registration with a returning transfer group? The last two could double up anyways =P.

I’ll probably go the same route as you Nick, if I can’t get a single I’ll look into something off-campus, less the financial aid is substantial enough to sway me, which I’m doubtful it will as I’m only getting about 11k in aid as it is. I take it your a History major as well? Or was that just an example?

Yeah no way am I doubling up at The Village. If it comes down to a double there or a single off campus, I’ll just get a nice off-campus apartment. I REALLY want a single on campus.

Yeah same here, I mean I was planning on bringing my car down anyways regardless if I was on campus or not, so it’s not like I’m saving any money with the parking permit. But I’ve always commuted to school so really wanted to try something different, one of the reasons I chose UCSD over UCSB was The Village, seemed like fun…

I’m political science. Basically the same as history, except we don’t actually learn anything.

Ah so we’re roughly in the same boat =p, nice to know there are a few non-science majors around though!

Yeah I have to bring my car for my business.

Do you mean “your business (an eBay store or something)” or “your business (e.g., ‘that’s my business’)?”

^ to the people on the previous page.

You can request roommates, my friend and I were in the same apartment before I decided not to go, my other friend who goes to UCSD is suite mates with 3 kids who all requested each other. All you have to do is ask to be roomed with your friend when they call to confirm room selection, then they will call your friend that you requested to be roomed with and confirm he/she wants to be roommates and thats all it takes.

Grimes and CJohnson… Are you going to admit day? Might be a good time to get acquainted and see if we could bear rooming with each other.

@nick_scheu: Haha my actual business. I’m a server/network admin for some local small/medium businesses and have to drive sometimes when I can’t get in remotely.

Not sure about transfer day. I’ve taken classes there so I’m not sure if I need to. If I do, I’m down to meet up.

I wouldn’t mind living in a double, and if I do get a bad experience, I’ll just get a single the following year hahah. Either way I think its going to be a fun once in a life time experience so just make the best of it.

Someone should really make a facebook page of transfers who are going to the village ! That way we can get an idea of who we will potentially be suite mates with.

Yeah I’m cool with meeting up with you guys on transfer day if I go. I’ll most likely be going unless something else comes up.

And as UCSDis mentioned, we don’t have a facebook transfer page this year do we? Last year had one if I recall correctly, not a bad idea.

@andyhb85
I wasn’t asking you what happened last year. Nor do I need to read a comment from someone being a “Debbie Downer”.
