UCSD's The Village

@redoplease
Dude what’s your problem? I make one typo and you have to call me out on that. Chill!!!

I’ll be one of your RAs at The Village this fall. I’ve lived both on and off campus so I’ll try and cover as many questions as possible, but I encourage all of you to come see The Village in person.

Singles vs. Doubles
First and foremost, this is a personal preference. There is plenty of space for both, but singles do sell out ridiculously fast. No matter what kind of room you have you’ll be sharing the living room, kitchen, and bathrooms.

East vs. West
There’s actually a difference here. I wouldn’t call any of these buildings “old.” West had it’s first residences in Fall '09 and East will open Fall '11. East has a focus on green building, but all of UCSD is striving to be the “greenest” university.
East and West each have a tower and certain rooms have ocean views. East has a pretty awesome terrace on the 13(?) floor. See floorplans and pictures at the HDH site.
I thought I had a preference at first, but now I pretty much just like all the different aspects of West and East.

Age
There is serious variety of ages at The Village. I’ve never really seen this to be a big deal though.

Off-Campus vs. On-Campus
This, again, is personal preference. There’s pros and cons for both. Cost depends on how you live and what you are and aren’t willing to give up.

Other Stuff
Someone mentioned trying to live in other Res Halls. This never happens. Most schools don’t have a housing option for transfers like The Village at all, but UCSD isn’t so forward thinking that they’ll let us live with the 4-years.

Anything else?

@ucsdRA
Why did you choose to be a RA?
How much are you paying to live at The Village?

When is transfer day anyway?

It’s May 7th

Why be an RA?
Where to start? The short answer: I’m a transfer student too and if it weren’t for the help of some pretty cool students I met, I would have gotten really frustrated. I think I offer good perspective and advice on all kinds of stuff, especially for first year transfers. Also, the other RAs are awesome and so is the staff at The Village. Even though I could have applied to be an RA at the other colleges, I like the The Village is only transfers and it was a big draw. Apparently it was for others too because there were about 130 other students applying in competition! Some of the old RAs returned also.

As for room and board, it’s included for all RAs. However, if you add it up, the total compensation comes out to be low as far as $/hour. It’s a lot of work, but a lot more fun :slight_smile: RAs are housed along with all the other students and you can see where on the floor plans (Marked “RA” instead of D or SS).

Oh it’s on a Saturday? Hmm I might be able to make it then.

Yup. Hopefully, the weather will be nice and it won’t rain.

how difficult is it to get a single if you have a minor disability?
…my friend has a leg problem and he’ll likely use that to try and get a single. i’ll **** on his pillow if he actually does get one using that lame excuse

edit: hahahaha hilar he also wants to know if he’ll get in trouble for playing his disability up.

ok so i havent fully accepted UCSD’s offer to their school but i will soon and im gonna go to the village, i havent signed up for the village yet tho. is it too late? when do i have to do that buy and how?

have you sent your housing application in yet? go on your account and click the housing app link on the left. I haven’t submitted my sir yet so i dont know what comes after haha.

There isn’t anything after that yet. The official app with the deposit and all that isn’t until May or something.

Yeah, I’m guessing they do that so perhaps it’s fair to students who get accepted later in the month?

I suppose that’s part of it yeah.

@Calimade thats great because I wasn’t talking to you. I’m not trying to be a downer, UCSD is great. I’m just being realistic with you about the Village.

@andyhb85
You have a selective memory. You were talking to me, you said my name and this is my post.
I don’t know what you are being so “realistic” about, you don’t even live at the Village.

@Calimade Apparently you have selective memory, because I wasn’t talking to you, then you made a rude comment that didn’t make any sense toward me, then I responded. On another note, yes you are right, I am an idiot and have no idea what I’m talking about and nobody should listen to me.

lol^
but incase anyone cared, my friend called and asked about what kind of special accomodations he could get because of his knee and basically he said it was this whole long process that wasnt even worth it (to him).

i want tomoro to be the 29th already wahhh

@ucsdra: just wondering do village students ever hold low key parties? how social is it in there?

ahhh so idk if i should go to admit day? It’s going to be extremely crowded and the campus is going to be super overdrive like freshmen day. AHHHH! what to do?

I want to check it out on a normal day. Have anyone considered this??

Really want to meet all of you though :)
