UF 2008 application woes

Well, my D2 completed her UF application, checked it about 6 times and clicked submit. Up popped a page with her new UFID number that said that the application was sucessfully submitted and she should now submit payment. She pulls me into the room to put in my credit card and I tried to submit the payment and the system was not working (it said to try again later). Ok, so I told her to just print the application summary page anyway. It prints and....about half of her application information is blank. The general info was there but her academic info and essay was blank. She started to panic and we called admissions. They said to check back on Tuesday and if it still isn't there she should call back. She may need to resubmit her entire application under another password/screenname. Incidently, tonite we were able to get back into the system and use the paypal to submit the application fee but the summary was still incomplete.
This happen to anyone else??? The woman in admissions told my D that they bring down the system everyday from 3-5 pm and that may be why it didn't work properly. Don't you think they should have that posted somewhere on the website?

Just a quick question- Why are you applying so early? I applied to UF, every Ivy but Columbia, Hopkins, MIT, and Duke and I wasn't finished with the UF application until September and the other schools I didn't finish until November. You should honestly get the essay checked by some professors, english teachers, guidance counselors, and other people. I got some nice acceptances and some may have been because I spent the extra time on the essays. I chose to go to UF for this year and am still considering transferring to those schools I was accepted to after my first year.

I know that isn't the answer to your question, but it's some food for thought.

My D is applying as early as she can (and for summer session)for many reasons. She is only applying instate and the instate Public colleges repeated this mantra (apply early as you can) multiple times during our tours. Two, she wants a good priority number for housing (in the unlikely but happy event that she is admitted). Three, her essay is terrific and has already been checked multiple times by teachers and her college guidance counselor. This year, UF has a limited and SOLE application period of July 1 - Nov. 1. Housing advantage, which is based upon application submission date and not acceptance) is to those who apply in July and August.

OK, UF just sent her an email that said:

Thank you for applying to the University of Florida!

Please review the freshman timeline at
<a href="http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/timeline.html%5B/url%5D">www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/timeline.html</a> to understand the admission
process and to anticipate the time it takes to provide an admission
decision.

Please note: while we encourage you to return to the Admissions
homepage to check your application status, allow four to five working
days to process supporting documentation, such as transcripts, that may
come by mail. Go to <a href="http://www.admissions.ufl.edu%5B/url%5D">www.admissions.ufl.edu</a> and click Check Status.

Best wishes for a terrific senior year.

Sincerely,
UF Office of Admission

I don't think that this tells her whether or not application transferred properly.

I remember being concerned when I printed out my summary last year. It only printed the basics: Name, ss#, address, emergency contact, SAT/ACT, High School and community college courses to be taken in senior year. I expected the full printout too. It won't hurt to call and check, but it sounds like you have done everything correctly. Good luck and enjoy your senior year!

Oh really???? The reason she (and I ) were worried is that the other sections are listed on the summary, but they are blank. Like it lists the entire Family Information and Student Resume section but her answers are not there (it is just blank. And it says...Personal Essay: ...And it is blank next to it whereas her sister's summary, two years ago didn't even list that stuff on the summary page! Another ominous sign is that it says "Application Term: 06" whereas in her application, she had checked off Summer/2008! She does need to call them on Monday or Tuesday to have them check the application on their end.

It sounds like my summary from last year is like her sisters. The summary you have does sound like it needs updating. Hopefully, your daughter will be able to talk to someone at UF who can sort it all out for her. Learning to deal with the small stresses is all part of the senior year experience. Try to take her mind off of it for a little while - LiveEarth concerts are today!

How early would you really recommend applying?? I think my school is going to have some assemblies about completing the application once school is back in session but I don't want to have waited too long to submit it and be left at a disadvantage with either admissions or housing preference. I finished the application today, except for the essay portion which I will probably have finished in a week. Also, how strict are the instructions, for instance when they tell you to list how many hours per week you committed to each community service activity? I ask because I'm sure most people have had activities that they have only participated in once or twice.

I recommend having it submitted by August, but that is my opinion. You probably can't get your school to send transcripts until you are back in session but I would do that the first week of school too. My elder daughter says that she "guesstimated" her weekly hours. I didn't really see my other daughter's application to know what she did (I just did my "Florida Resident" and Paying the application fee online thing). Once you finish your essay, I would have it read over by someone you trust (for both errors and content). My daughter's college guidance counselor checked hers (and gave her pointers on what she should leave out and what she may want to add.)

Thanks, also, I actually already turned in my transcript at the hispanic program a couple of days ago, and sent my SAT about 3 days ago, so really recommendation letters and the application are the only things pending from me at least.

Seiclan

Assuming the application was submitted properly and processed by UF, how do you get a housing priority number? does UF send it to you? do you need to login to ISIS? Do you have to pay a deposit fee?

thanks

I think that you cannot apply for housing until your application is complete at UF (they have to have your transcript and SAT scores too). Once your appliction is complete I think that they send you an email saying so and inviting you to go online and apply for housing. If anyone knows any differently please let us know.

Just found this on the website:

If you have applied for admission to UF, paid the application fee to Admissions and your payment has been posted you are eligible to apply for housing. If you wait to apply for housing until after you are formally admitted to the University, you reduce your chances of being assigned to one of your preferences and also run the risk of not being offered housing at all.

You have to have a gatorlink account to do this and you cannot get one until about 2 or 3 business days after you submit your application.

thanks for the update

An update:
This morning my D was able to create her Gatorlink username (previously the site didn't allow this) and she was able to check her status which read:

"The Office of Admissions has received your application for 2008 Summer B. Your file is being processed. Please return again in two-three weeks to check the status of your application."

So, that is a good sign. I don't think that she can apply for housing until the status update (where they post that the application payment complete) in 2-3 weeks. I think that they send her either an email or snail mail (or both)telling her to go online and apply for housing at that point.
She will still try to speak to the admissions people today though to make sure that everything on the application printed out on their end (since it did not on hers).

When my D spoke to UF about a senior yr class change, they also told her that they are changing the way that the application summary prints out (since there is a glitch in the system). Incidently, she was emailed to apply for housing on July 12, which she did. Her housing priority number is now July 12....reason enough to apply early!

So your D is graduating senior year in like June 2008 and would if admitted, go right to UF for summer session B as a freshman?

Yes, my D is graduating senior year on May 25th (most Florida seniors graduate at the end of May) and is applying to enter UF as a Freshman summer B 2008 (which will start about June 23rd...).

The page is printing fine now

For that housing application you fill out soon after you send in the app, you don't specify the dorm complex, correct?
