@BoricuanPaul you look like a good candidate. Especially since UF looks at everything. Although not sure if it’s harder to get in in-state vs OOS for UF. @halseymath YOu look strong too.
Hi y’all. This isnt confirmed or anything but i do believe it is slightly easier for out of state applicants just because of the opporunities and resources available for students. I am from the north and very few schools, if any, have IB and DE is not available to the extent it is here. therefore, they expect more coming from instate students.

Comments: im getting really worried bc I’ve heard of people with high stats getting denied from uf bc they did not demonstrate interest… i joined their mailing list, followed/liked uf on fb, completed housing app and paid deposit but I didn’t do a tour. I’m from nj which is why it wasn’t exactly easy for me to do a tour so I’m hoping they’ll take this into consideration, but i did get deferred from tulane for not showing interest so yeah I’m worrying
I applied to UF in 2016
Was top 10% of my class
31 ACT
14 AP classes
Founder of a service project, won 2 awards from the state. Held positions in several clubs, 600 service hours, great essay.
Got rejected.
However, now I’m in an Honors program of another school and I’m currently in my second year with almost a 4.0. Killed Organic chemistry among other difficult pre-med classes. My point is, don’t be let down if you don’t get the decision you want tomorrow. A school doesn’t define you; your actions do. UF was my top choice, but I can’t be happier of where I’m at right now. Things will always work out
Don’t worry. Applying as an out of state student already shows enough interest lol
@charmander007 we’re you OOS?and what was your gpa?
@charmander007 wondering the same as @Anxiousmom12 … and where did you end up for college??
I was in state, GPA was trash at about a 3.2. However, this was because I ended sophomore year with a 2.7. Got straight A’s after, even in my senior year when my entire schedule was 7 APs. My semester GPA rivaled that of the top 5 kids in my school, and I hoped schools would look at my grade trend (which some did). However, GPA is probably the biggest reason why I didn’t get in.
Ended up in the Honors College at USF Tampa… I was disappointed at first and didn’t want to go anywhere other than UF, but I love it here. Never once thought about transferring. The Honors students have their own dorm building; my floor alone in freshman year had 5 valedictorians who had been accepted to many other schools including Ivies. Environment can’t be better, it’s very stimulating and competitive. The 7-year med program and easy to obtain scholarships are what attract most of these kids.
@charmander007 Impressive senior schedule! Glad you ended up in a good place that you love!
About 9 hours to go. Excited and nervous for my son.
Total rumor alert!
My daughter said she is now “low-key freaking out” because some kids at school said they got an email from UF saying that there was a record number of applicants and the class will be small. She didn’t get an email. Anyone heard about this? Again, this is the reporting of an 18 year old high school student.
No email here. If true, could be a good sign to not get one, as it sounds like a reason that applicants would not be accepted. So stressful!
@GatorDad305 there was an email saying there was a record number of applicants that went out. There was another one yesterday saying to check to see that you can login and updates will be out at 6. I think not getting one means you spam filter is working and nothing more
There was an earlier post on this thread about 40,000 apps this year which is almost 16% higher than the prior year…and unprecedented one year jump in apps. If this is true and they accept the normal 13,500 or so, the percentage admitted would drop to about 33-34%…which is by far the lowest admit rate UF has had in many many years …
I have seen no email. And trust me I would know as I am in full anxiety mode for my son. What I bet they are talking about is the Tips for Decision day that came out that basically said keep all sharp objects away when you check in at 6 and don’t bother to try and call or appeal. That made a girl at my son’s school start to cry. My kid is already in at FSU so tonight he’ll either be a baby Gator or a Gator-Hater. Good luck to all. (Unless you get in and my kid gets cut, )
