UF decision 2012 Spring TRANSFER - accepted/denied

lol, want to contact them and ask to switch specializations with eachother? (half kidding!)

I emailed FSHN advisers about this very issue, thinking I may be able to switch since the two are under the same major. I was told that it would be allowed only if I had any additional transfer prereqs completed prior to transfer (that would be this term). Basically the difference in transfer prereqs is the nutritional science requires calculus I, whereas dietetics requires trig or precalculus. Since I am taking trig this term (although plan to take calculus since it’s a pre-prof. requirement), I do not meet this requirement before transfer. UF is extremely strict on these requirements, so there’s no way around it.
The only alternative I have is to go next spring as dietetics specialty and add the extra pre-professional requirements (calculus, physics I and II, plus any other upper level sci. electives I might want to be competitive) on top of the minimum 15 hours/term that they require as they want transfers to graduate in four terms or less. So I’d be taking about 19 hours a term of mostly science courses, plus wanting to do research/volunteering/clinical work on top of that (possibly also working). Not a good load for someone who wants to do their best and be a good med school applicant.

You may be just fine though, if you have already taken trig/precalc and have all the other nutritional sci. prereqs- then I’m pretty sure they’d let you transfer to dietetics specialty. I’d email the adviser to ask or call admissions asap.

Good luck!

It would still be possible for me if UF didn’t force the four term graduating rule…I think they do but I’m trying to get a definite answer on this! I thought completing an R.D. program would be a great idea, since I am pre-med but extremely interested in nutrition; it would be a very nice fall back just in case I didn’t want to or didn’t get in to med school.
Doing the standard science major for pre-med doesn’t offer many job opportunities should things not work out!

I really hope you get in!!

Thanks for all the information! It helps a lot! i have finished tri, pre-cal, and cal 1, so I guess i will email the adviser on Monday. UF’s prereq is insanely strict, which force me to take both biology classes this semester.
I am now in pre-med major, but I am not sure whether I am able to get into med school. That’s why I want to transfer to dietetics, since I can do something else with a Dietetics Bachelor’s degree.
Hope you can get in with all your problems fixed with UF too! I really hope we can meet there!

Hello everyone. I am a transfer student who applied to CLAS for biochemistry. I had all A’s in every semester, but I had a situation in the fall of 2010 that caused me to fail a prereq and get a C in another. I retook both courses the following semester and did well in them. Guess what?

I got in.

GPA is not everything. For all of you in this forum who think that one grade will shoot your chances, you are wrong. Due to that semester, I have a 3.0 core GPA and a 3.6 overall, and I was admitted. Keep your heads up. Explain any poor grades in the student intent section, and have the advisors note your accounts with positive comments. You will get in. The admissions committee members are humans, too.

Does N e one know how strict UF is for this 4 term graduation rule???

Very strict. You MIGHT get a 5th or 6th term if you have an extensively valid reason. I myself may not be able to do the double major I want simply because it would require me to be there for six terms.

Accepted! Elem edu major, 3.6 overall GPA, 4.0 pre-req GPA, Santa Fe student with an AA!
Very excited!!

congrats to everyone even those not admitted we are all gonna be happy in the end =)

Anyone knows who is in charge of the admission of CLAS and how to contact them? Thanks a lot!

@gzxcy15

I am not sure who the head person is for CLAS but as long as you call admissions and give them your UF ID they should be able to assist you.

@BlueDiamond

Thank you so much for your information, I will try contact admission.

Your welcome, please let me know if you need anything else.

No changes here…I don’t think I will know until the week of the 15th (November)…

what do i do after i get accepted? is there a certain page i go to to accept my admission?

@Tinuviel8

No changes here either :frowning: both the admission office and CLAS people told me to keep waiting until Nov 15th…

I guess I will apply for FSU this weekend as a backup.

Worst wait ever!

I applied to UF, FSU, UCF, and USF in September, so far I have been accepted into FSU and USF. I have not been accepted or denied into UF and UCF just waiting for a decision.

My major is Criminology.

Hey yall, Ive been reading this thread and decided to join CC because of it lol. I applied to CALS for the spring 2012 semester. my intended major is microbiology (preprofessional). My GPA is a 3.76 and for my prereqs its a 4.0. Ill be finishing up my AA this semester. I applied to UF back when I was a freshman as my first choice and it was the only college i didnt get accepted to (received acceptance from FSU, USF, and Penn State) even though I had above average stats… I decided to wait two years and hold out on UF. I applied September 1st and im still waiting on a decision. congrats to everyone who has already been accepted and good luck to those still waiting!

Wow; you too? I am applying with a 4.0 gpa for CALS micro as well, and they sure are taking their sweet ass time! Are you pre-med?

Glad I’m not the only one still waiting! And yes, I’m pre-med! Are you? I went up to Gainesville to talk to a counselor (she’s also the person who deals with all the applications) and she said they suggested majoring in something more specific than “biological sciences”, such as micro or vet science. so, I think we’re on the right track ;)

Med school sounds awesome, but I am in love with the science of microbiology; I am sitting in on an intro to microbiology class(not applicable for the major) and I get excited. It’s just so interesting to me. I picked UF because they are bosom buddies with Shands, a major research hospital, and I want to go to their grad school for Immunology.
