I know that UF recalculates your GPA on their 5.0 point scale. When you send your GPA to them, do they also ask for an unweighted GPA score? I'm almost a Junior and I know it may be a little premature for these questions, but I'm curious. I would have a 4.3 UF GPA, yet my Unweighted GPA would be much less, so I need to know if they only take into account your recalc'd GPA. Thank you!

Hi, the GPA is self-reported using the Self-Reported Academic Record (SAR).

http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/sar.html

In the SAR you enter all of your classes from 9 thru 11th grade (a possibly one or two classes from 8th grade). For each class, you will identify it as a normal, honor’s or AP/AICE/IP/DE class. If your high school transcript list GPA by year, you will also include that. UF will be able to calculate your GPA based on what you’ve inputted. UF doesn’t require your high school transcripts, unless you’re accepted and enrolled.

UF is really only looking at your weighted GPA. However, they also look at the rigor of your classes and how you compared with your peers. In other words, with UF’s holistic admissions it can get complicated. For your purposes, just focus on the weighted GPA. Driving it up means you’re likely taking advance classes (honors, AP, IB, etc.), which also helps with rigor. A 4.3 wGPA is fine for UF, keep it up and focus on the other requirements (EC’s, essay, etc…).

Keep in mind that some Florida schools are no longer recalculating GPA, but are using whatever is on your transcripts. These include FSU,FGCU, FAU, New College, and UWF. UF however still recalculates the GPA.

Good Luck
