UF Honors College

@caspiancat your D could be in a position of extra if she receives Lombardi/Stamps as it may stack with her Benacquisto.

@madredos Wow! Had no idea that was possible. Congrats to those who received it.
@sunlioness - Yes that’s true I suppose that could stack if it’s allowed, which apparently it is according to more experienced UF parents. I don’t know much about the process as my son did not pursue Stamps/Lombardi. Do most schools allow stacking beyond a full ride? I had always thought this wasn’t allowed, but apparently at least some schools allow it.

My son got auto admit to UF honors (ACT 35, since a 34 posted on here he didn’t get I assume that’s the cutoff) , the scholarship (it sounds like 2000 for each of two years), the research program, but he somehow didn’t get any Admissions/Presidential scholarships.

Hoping for a College scholarships as those come with the financial aid information in a couple weeks (unlike Admissions Scholarships which were sent two weeks ago).

Are you guaranteed Hume Hall if your auto admitted or for that matter application admitted to UF honors?

The admission email said a room was guaranteed in Hume.

It’s my understanding that the $2,000 scholarship is split across four semesters…$500 in Fall and Spring for the first two years.

My son and a friend would like to room together and both have applied to Honors. Does anyone know if one gets in and the other does not can they both still live in Hume?

I have read somewhere that an honors member is not guaranteed to bring in a non-honors student into Hume.

Gator88NE Friday is the Honors

Gator88NE Friday is the Honors tour. Should I do the campus tour, Engineering tour and Honors while we are here? Are all beneficial?

BTW My son 4.0/4.7 1550 SAT did not receive the auto admit. He only took the SAT once as the Internet said a higher score wouldn’t help. Lol

@FSUdad93 I would rank the tours: Engineering, Honors and then campus tour, last.

The Engineering tour will introduce him to other engineering students, which gives him a sense of what his “tribe” will look like. When we did it, there was a walking tour, and then a Q&A session with engineering students. The engineering students talked about what projects they had worked on, what internships they had done, etc.

The honor’s tour (Afternoon with Honors) was good, because we got to hang out with one of the honor students during lunch and ask them several questions, many of them about life at UF, only a few were about the honor’s program.

Finally, the campus tour is something you can do by yourself. Especially after the engineering tour.

Good Luck and have fun!

Does anyone know if UF does option C for NMF ?
(in reference for the Benacquisto)

(a) a National Merit® $2500 Scholarship,
(b) a Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship, or
© a College-sponsored Merit Scholarship.

It would be nice to know that those who don’t receive option A would get a College sponsored Award?
( as per many other Universities)

Yes, UF is an approved grantor of NM scholarships. A NMF becomes a scholar by listing UF as their first choice by May 1 and enrolling. If you are a Florida resident, you will get the Benacquisto scholarship as well, which covers the total cost of attendance. I understand next year’s state budget will cover OOS as well. The Benacquisto is the sweetest deal for NMF in the country. I expect UF to overtake Oklahoma as the school with the most NMFs next year.

It looks to me like 1560 SAT / 35 ACT were the cutoffs for auto admit from reviewing posts.

I did some info gathering and emailing and came up with some answers to questions that have been floating around -

  1. Is it possible to get Benacquisto/NMF + a presidential scholarship? I actually got the Presidential Gold scholarship and I'm supposedly guaranteed to get the Benacquisto (see #2), so yes, this is possible lol.
  2. Does UF give college-sponsored NM scholarships/can this count toward the requirements for Benacquisto? Yes, UF gives this $500 NM scholarship which counts as a "college-sponsored" scholarship for Benacquisto purposes. Furthermore, anyone who put UF as their first choice (at least before the March 1 deadline) is supposedly guaranteed this $500 NM scholarship, according to Jessica Roth, Assistant Director for Scholarships and Regional Recruitment. So apparently, if you're a NMF and want Benacquisto, all you have to do is put UF as your first choice.
  3. How do scholarships stack? Scholarships stack on top of each other. With tuition waivers you have to be more careful, but it can also work. For example, Benacquisto and Presidential scholarships would stack, so that both would go towards covering whatever charges are on my account, and whatever is left will be returned to me to spend however I want. Another example: if you get the Honors $2K scholarship (actually a tuition waiver, split into $500 per semester for 4 semesters) and also the highest level of Bright Futures (which would cover all tuition), and say you have $3K in tuition for your first semester, you can use the $500 from Honors, then cover the remaining $2500 with BF, and have the unused $500 of BF go toward covering other expenses or, if you have none, to be returned to you.

Hope that helped!

Hello all. Quick question. Are any of you having issues with the housing preference site? My D was auto accepted into honors and therefore guaranteed a spot in Hume. However, the housing preference site will not let her request the Honors LLC. It keeps saying she is not approved for this LLC ??? She has already confirmed that she will be joining the honors program so I am confused as to why it won’t let her request the Honors LLC. Did we miss a step? I will try to call housing tomorrow but just wanted to see if there were others having the same problem. Thanks

In a private conversation at the Top Ten Reception, a senior administrator said that all the honors members should be entered into the computer soon. Maybe that is holding up your housing entry.

In another conversation, a top administrator said that “about 300” students had been offered auto-admit into honors by UF this year, and the plan is to make honors all auto-admit next year.

Following. I did the Honors Tour with D today (she is a junior in HS). She really liked it! Both her dad and I attended UF so it will be interesting to see if she chooses UF as well. We shall see.
