I don’t know either! D: I have my heart set on Hume, but at this rate, it’s not looking likely. :/

I was accepted to the honors program. I applied by petition: 2040 SAT, 4.1 GPA. I wrote the essays 15 minutes before the deadline. I write well under pressure lol.

I paid the $20 housing hold fee when i sent in my app but I didn’t pay the housing deposit in february. Now that I’ve gotten into honors, am I guaranteed a spot in Hume?

Thanks for the idea of checking the UF e-mail. How clever! My d was admitted by petition.

I was invited to apply! :(

Ughhh, this sucks so much.

I think this Honors application is misleading to the students. They say they have a minimum requirement but they really don’t. The truth is anyone can apply and anyone can get in by petition. When we went to the school for the Afternoon with Honors day the director basically told us that anyone can petition, and she encouraged everyone there to do so regardless of their stats. She told us that the petition kids had to complete some kind of Haiku and letter stating why they wanted to be in Honors and if the committee (which is also composed of Honors students) liked it, their applications went right into the pile with the invited kids (who achieved the “required stats”) and they were all chosen from that. She said “At that point we don’t know the difference between who was invited and who petitioned”. Huh? So what’s the point of even having a “set” requirement or even a petition process for that matter? Just let everyone apply, don’t worry about stats, and take the essays you like the best. That’s basically what they do. It’s the strangest honors admittance process we’ve come across.

I got into the honors program! Anyone know if there is a different preview for honors students or does it not matter?

@auburntigers22 - according to a previous poster in this thread that information was covered in the acceptance letter you received. Good luck :)

@neorobie - If you plan on attending UF you should probably go ahead and do the housing contract. I think at this point you’d probably have trouble getting in anywhere BUT Hume. When we visited the director told us that a lot of the Honors kids actually choose not to live there so they usually have additional rooms open up that non honors admitted kids can have. So having said that with you getting into honors and having 1st priority I would think you’d probably get in there. I wouldn’t wait any longer though to move forward with it.

@anghrt - Harvard, Yale & Duke, that’s amazing, you must be so proud! You’re wondering what to do? I wouldn’t give UF Honors a second thought if your son got into those schools and with full rides no less? What’s the decision?! Go for the free Ivy!!

@FLnative28 - we communicated on here a few weeks ago and I wanted to follow up and let you know that my daughter also was denied. We are very frustrated. Like your son it would have a great fit for her. I am wondering if this will change her mind? She has said she will make a decision tomorrow, she some other great choices so we will see. I was wondering what you thought about her chances of getting in Trusler, like your son that is her second choice. Her date is not until next week. She has not even attempted to find a roomate yet, I think she was waiting to hear from the Honors program.

Just found out I didnt get in. Oh well, somewhat disappointed. What are some of the good dorms?

@hope2bgator - I’m sorry your daughter didn’t get in, hopefully when the disappointment wears off she’ll realize it’s really not that big a deal. When my son didn’t get in he said “Oh well, I guess I’m not what they were looking for, no biggie”. I however, was pretty upset and indignant. Go figure, he’s better adjusted in that department than I am, I guess. I’m not sure what my son is going to choose tomorrow. He is lucky in that he picks tomorrow in the first round BUT he’s still not sure what to pick. He’s going to talk with some kids at school tomorrow who are also going to UF and see if he can find someone to room with and they can decide together. I think Trusler would be a good fit for him but I’m concerned about the location for HIM. I had my concerns about Hume’s location as well (it’s a bit off the beaten path) but I was willing to get past that because the dorms were so nice and I liked the kids. He is a PoliSci major and the PoliSci Bldg., Anderson Hall, is clear on the opposite side of campus from the Hume/Trusler area. I think he’d like to be “closer to everything” - classes, dining, etc. It looks like may choose Broward or Jennings (please pray for me, LOL). Remind your daughter that being in the Honors program has nothing to do with actually graduating with honors and I’m sure she’ll have no problem doing that. And that you don’t have to be in the Honors program to take honors classes either, she can still do that as well. The only thing she really loses out on is Hume and priority registrations. Let me know what she decides! :)

I didn’t get into Honors, after all that, and I’ve spent the entire day crying.

I’m happy for everyone else though.

@nickirows, how did you finally find out? I still haven’t gotten any emails.

I’ve checked my normal email and I’ve logged into gatorlink (myufl) but i don’t see an email section.

How do I check?

@FLGal511, I had set my gatorlink to forward all my UF emails to my regular emails. It had gone into the spam section, and I had deleted it by mistake. I decided to check, and lo and behold, it was there.

@mathisfun11. Gatorlink isn’t the actual email device; you can only change certain settings for your email. Go here: https://webmail.ufl.edu/

@nickirows how do you set gatorlink to forward to your regular email?

Accepted!!!

Ah, thank you nickirows! I finally found my email in my spam folder.

Accepted!
