I know the website says you need a 1400 and a 4.0 to get in, but have you guys heard of any exceptions...or people who didn't meet this that got in??

Yes, if you are a little off on the SAT and have the GPA, they'll let you slide (this was the case 3 years ago, not sure if they're this flexible now). I know a handful of people who were able to get in despite not having the SAT, although they were pretty close. However, it doesn't work the other way around (having the SAT, but not the gpa). You just have to talk to them, a representative is always there during preview.

so say...what would happen if you just sent in an application and hoped they didn't notice [sat is not on the honors app...but i'm guessing they assume you have it if you apply...]

You have to be invited to apply... were you invited?

Unless he got the application by some other means.

Quiksilver, I remember in preview there was a representative who asked "If anyone didn't get an honors invitation, but feels they should have gotten one, come down and talk to me." So you can plead your case then, they will probably let you slide if you are a little off with the SAT, but have the gpa. Or you can contact them beforehand.

i was not invited but the website is letting me apply...with my gatorlink id...?

....bump.....

Is Hume a fun dorm? is it really social like the others or is its claim to fame just that it is nicer?

You can live in hume only the summer, not fall.

why not fall?

Hume is the honors dorm and in fall/spring, only honors students can live there. Thats lifted in summer because they don't have enough honors students to limit it like fall.

Oh i know that sorry i meant to ask how come hume is open to all students during summer unlike fall where only honors students can live there?

ASMAJ just explained, because there isn't enough room. But actually, ASMAJ, there is a slight possibility of living in Hume in Fall. I know a handful of people who basically bugged the housing office to live in the Hume and it worked. Keep in mind that not all honors students live at Hume, some choose to live off-campus and other dorms. So there is a possibility, although very small, of living in Hume for Fall.

i know what he said and understand i was just clarifying what i meant to ask (wasn't asking again). If you are part of that very small group wanting to live in hume do you stat have to be very close to those actually qualified to live there?

Actually, I heard this year that since they made the requirements of getting into Honors higher, there was not enough people to fill hume. I have friends that live there this semester and they said there is a good amount of people who live there but aren't in honors.

How social of a dorm is hume and how much nicer is it compared to other dorms?

I never actually lived in Hume ( I applied for housing way too late), but from what I hear and when I was actually there, it really depends on the floor you live on. I've heard that each floor can be quite different with some being very social and others not. I'm pretty sure Hume is one of the nicest dorms on campus along with Springs and Lakeside.

What's the point of raising the requirements for the Honors program if they continue to admit people who don't meet the requirements?

The posted minimum seems to be just the minimum to receive an inviation to apply to the program. The minimum for actual acceptance may higher, however. The group invited to the annual Honors Visitation Day needed a 4.0 and 1430 SAT:

So just as the average SAT for admission into UF has been steadily increasing, the cutoff for admission into the Honors Program may have increased too.

I was invited and I had a 1420...
