So UF is probably my top choice for colleges right now. I'm an athlete, was recruited, and got injured 2 weeks ago, so naturally my scholarship is pretty much revoked until further notice. I should recover enough to get back my scholarship, but I need to have some back-up options. My problem with UF is its lack of merit aid. USF and FSU have offered me some merit scholarships, but I worried that UF won't. I have a 32 ACT and a 5.1 WGPA and 4.0 UWGPA. I have a ton of community service stuff, plus obviously a lot of athletic stuff. My family makes a decent amount of money, but certain circumstances have made it difficult to pay for college. I won't get need based aid, but I really can't go to UF without a little bit of scholarship money from somewhere.

I've heard that the UF presidential scholarships are really tough to get, can anyone share stats or advice. I'm white female, so not a minority. Thanks in advance

I’m Confused-
You have a 4.0 UWGPA, all A’s in all your academic courses, all three years in High School. That’s unlikely.
Your WGPA is a 5.1? That’s not possible. Even if all your academic courses were AP’s & A’s, a weighed UFL GPA cannot exceed 5.0.
Acceptances are not out yet, but your scholarship has already been revoked?
You were injured but only two weeks ago and already UFL is dumping you ?

I agree, this seems really fishy. The fact that you have a 5.1 GPA alone is strange, not to mention the fact that your scholarship is being revoked almost immediately after an injury. I’m an athlete and things happen, it’s almost common to get an injury once a season and 2 weeks is about a normal recovery time. Why your scholarship would get “revoked” so quickly is just senseless. If you really were recruited it would be based on your overall history as an athlete.

In any case, you need to call UF and speak to an advisor regarding what you can qualify for, and also speak to the person in charge of your recruitment and explain your situation. Obviously you know something about UF Presidential Scholarships so you’ve done your research. Any questions you have are best suited for advisors because they have first hand knowledge on how scholarships work at UF.

Also keep in mind that freshman decisions haven’t even come out yet, so calm down. February 8th is not too long from now, so be patient and you will find out around that date of any additional academic scholarships you are eligible for.

The funny thing is that you answered your own question in your third sentence. You say it’s only a temporary injury, and if that’s the case you have nothing to worry about. Perhaps you’ve been lucky enough to avoid them throughout your high school career, but I’ll repeat it again: injuries are normal!

I think I need to explain myself further…
As for the injury, it was partial athletic, partial academic. It was a private, small DII school, not some big DI school that signs you you’re sophmore year. The scholarship it self wasn’t “signed” because they were looking to pick me up pretty late. I was kinda on the end of their roster, it’s a private school that was reworking their scholarship distribution, and when they saw a chance to cut back when the recruiter let them know that I needed serious shoulder surgery that would take quite a while to recover they said: “We can’t help you, call us back when recovery is over and MAYBE we’ll talk then.” I’m an optomistic person, I will be trying my hardest once surgery is over to get back in, but from a realistic, statistical point of view, it may not happen.

As for the grades, I did make all A’s, thank you. Freshman and Sophmore year classes are soooo easy, come on. I switched to full dual enrollement my junior and senior year, where all an A is is a 90, not that unachieveable. For the 5.1, that is how the college weighed my GPA, and the district approved it, I have no hand in that.

If you are looking for an honest response, then please provide the following-
Are you currently a high school senior, have you even applied yet to UFL and I’d supposed you are out of state?
Usually, as in 99.% of all cases, UFL doesn’t even announce freshman acceptances until Mid-February and scholarships are not offered until after one is accepted, so how did UFL offer you anything?
Are you just “””ASSUMING”””” that UFL will welcome you with open arms and offer you a full ride?
If that’s the case, then you are in for a big surprise. Possibly you should read-up on UFL admissions policy and that may answer your questions. Good Luck !

Also, one more point. You are in the same boat as most applicants. Good GPA, high SAT/ACT and no offers from UFL as UFL is notorious for not providing much in the way of merit aid. Most everyone at UFL have similar stats!

@ilovethe47: I appreciate your response. I am an instate senior, I have applied, and I in NO WAY believe that I would ever get a free ride at UF, that doesn’t happen, ever. I’m not even a shoe in for acceptance. I’m not expecting scholarship money either, my sister was National Merit Scholar and she got a little money, but nothing huge. I know that my stats are average for UF, but I was just curious if UF does any merit aid. From what I’ve heard and looked at, they don’t. Again, thank you for your input.

Average stats? I’d disagree man, your scores, grades, GPA, extracurriculars…they are all knocked down, you’re an awesome candidate for uf.

Also ilovethe47, when it comes to athletic recruitment, things work a bit differently.

To OP again, did they accept you then give you a scholarship at recruitment, or did they rescind everything at injury? Actually, now that I re-read your opening post, you got recruited to another school, lost a scholarship due to injury and are looking into backup options, the top one being uf. Correct?

@Sabertooth: Yes, my scholarship has been revoked because of injury, so right now I’ve turned to my back-ups, the top one is UF. It’s an awesome school, but a little expensive compared to the other state schools. I’m just trying to decide if it would be worth it to go there even if it is more pricey. (Plus I want to go to UF COM after I graduate, so I figure going there for undergrad would only help)
