UF Scholarships?

Hello, has anyone received any scholarship or financial aid information from University of Florida yet? I check ISIS almost every day and nothing has shown up yet, and I haven't received anything via email or snail mail. I have a 4.4 GPA, 32 ACT, and many extracurricular activities, and every other school I've applied to has given me quite a bit of scholarship money. Does UF not really give scholarships, or are they sending them late this year?

Scholarship recipients have most likely been notified. (I got one).

But… I spoke to a FinAid person 3 weeks ago and she said Financial Aid notices would ben sent on or after APril 1st.

Hope this helps;

what was your GPA, test scores, etc.?

4.2, 3.8 un-weighted.

610 - reading
630 - math
620- writing

Major: Engineering
32- ACT
Actively volunteered 150+ hours @Public Library
Held a Job for past 21 months 25 hours a/week @ LIbrary

After speaking with a person from the Office of Financial Assistance, we will be notified sometime this week or next week on financial aid. Recipients for the scholarships have been notified, and students would get them for academic achievement. Unfortunately because of so many cuts on education, they cant give out as much money as before, so people like me are really concerned about how much we’ll receive. And with few scholarships and so many people that qualify for them, they are forced to select the best of the best.

I also already got a scholarship from UF:

6.09/ 3.662 unweighted
reading: 710
math: 640
writing: 670
major: anthropology
volunteer hours: 600+ hours from various community service activities

@Jennyration,

I don’t doubt you :-)… but how is a 6.09 possible? Can you explain? Thanks. Very curiosu

lol, I know i get that a lot. Im in a dual enrollment program. one of my fellow students just recently surpassed 7.0

It’s a lot of ppl that attend Miami Carol City Senior High with 6.68 GPAs. Schools like that give out GPAs.

Yeah… um… I’m in Dual Enrollment… Even that’s a little far-fetched. I think i’ll agree with JeromeFulton… it’s a given GPA. The highest in my HS is only a 4.4 and we are a DE HS.

OK I am just the DAD can you guys tell me what ISIS is?

haha… you don’t know what ISIS is??

it’s gonna be your kid’s homebase for everything related to their work/fin aid/registering @ UF! You can check your FinAid status. Here’s the link:

ISIS

@gator4ever ISIS is a place where you can check your financial aid info and records.

Seems like such a long time before they’ll let us know…

DE classes are considered AP so after 14 college classes(48 credits) I dont think its that far fetched. I had a 4.5 in 10th grade with only honors classes

@Jenneraytion Your school must be isn’t on a 4.0 scale.

@Jenneraytion do you attend a private, or public school?

@jeromefulton both of my highschools were on a 4.0 scale and @princessla92 both of them were public schools

The Valedictorian at my school currently has an 8.3 weighted, which dwarfs my still respectible 6.0. The way it’s calculated all depends on your school/county. In my county you have you’re unweighted GPA and for every AP or Honors class you pass with a C or above will earn you an additional .08 and .05 on your GPA, respectively. This was if you take a bunch of AP classes your GPA will fly up (even if don’t get straight A’s). My friend got two D’s on a report card once and his weighted GPA still went up because of the strength of his schedule. I think it’s a flawed system, but it’s the one we were dealt so I can’t do anything about it. It allows people who aren’t very smart to just load up on AP/Honors courses and get poor grades, but still fly up in the rankings. Oh well.

@irish The FinAid date is April 1st I believe as others have stated. And if you’re looking at these posts and wondering why those with lower scores and GPA’s have gotten scholarships and you haven’t, they left out, what I believe, is the most important statistic: Race/Gender. Caucasians most have extremely high scores in order to earn a scholarship, while those that fit into a minority have a little more range to score in.

Rlynch, you make a good case but I am a white female. Maybe because I am a female pursuing engineering? But, even that might be a stretch. In my county, we do not award extra points for AP or DE classes. But, if it was true, lol, I’d have a 6.2. THat’s crazy.
