UF vs UM

So I am deciding between these two colleges, and have a few questions.. Academically, is UF that much better than UM? I know that UM is now ranked 47th as opposed to UFs 53, but when looking at the individual program rankings, UF blows out Miami in almost every single ranking (except for medicine, in which they are tied). However, UM has a major in Biomedical Engineering, which UF does NOT have. I want to also do pre-med. Would it be better to go to UM or UF (disregard the financial factor)?

I’m on the same boat but the only difference is I’ve only been accepted to UM as of right now. UM seems to be better in the sciences, but the communications school is just as big. I’m thinking of doing pre-med too and they have programs like the PRISM program that’s really great for that. I went to the accepted students orientation this past Sunday and it seems like the school has it’s **** together. The financial aspect is the only thing stopping me from going there especially when I didn’t get a scholarship and I haven’t heard from financial aide yet.

I would say UF would be the best bet, but that’s my personal opinion. I’m not looking to get into severe debt for undergrad even though I would only be paying two years as a transfer student. UM seems great with all the opportunities and the smaller classes, etc.

Have you been accepted to any schools yet?

If it makes a difference, I was in the same boat about the biomedical engineer. However, UF is getting a biomedical engineering major soon…in the fall I believe. Also, if you want to do medical I would say go to the cheapest school and then go to whichever is the better medical. As you said though, they are tied for their medicine. I decided to go to UF because its cheaper for me. Is your major biomedical engineering?

go to the cheaper undergrad. medical school is expensive.
