My son is applying for the University Fellows experience, and the application is due this Friday. Two essays are required, plus students can write a third optional essay if they have anything else they’d like to share. I’d love to hear from those accepted to the program as to whether the third essay is considered essential. It seems to me that if you feel like you’ve fully developed yourself in all the required submissions it would be superfluous, but I’m wondering if it’s in some way deemed important as a means of seeing how much you want to be a UF, how much effort you’ve put into the package, etc. Are there Fellows who were chosen without the third essay?

D mailed her application out yesterday and did not do the 3rd essay. After reading so many of her other supplemental essay questions for other schools, I did not think she needed to add any more additional information as her responses to the 2 required were probably some of her best yet. She also did not want to write any more, period

My son did the first two essays but not the third. He figures that essays are part of the package, but not the whole package. He also sent along his resume, which he managed to keep to one page.
