UGA Housing

I’m an OOS student that applied to UGA and assuming that I get accepted it seems that housing can be competitive and I should make a deposit soon after admission. Is this true? And if so, what residence hall would be best for an honors student biology major looking to go to vet school. I definitely do not want a party dorm. I also applied for Foundation Fellowship and if you become a fellow or receive the Bernard Ramsey do you still have a choice in dorms? Thank you so much in advance, any information would be greatly appreciated!

Are you planning on committing to UGA if accepted? If I remember correctly, you can’t make a room deposit unless you have committed.

The high-rise dorms are still the most social and more friendship inducing. My son was an honors student and doesn’t regret for a minute having stayed there. He was in Creswell and did the freshman college, which he would also recommend.
My son’s three roommates roomed in the honors dorm, Myers, their freshman year and all hated it. Some people that prefer quiet and closed doors like it. Girls seem to like it more.
Another option would be Rutherford, which has just been redone. It is part of a learning community and I know of two students that loved staying there.

Most honors students stay in Myers. I’m not sure how it was in the past, but I know a lot of the students in Myers (my best friend is a fellow) and it’s surprisingly social this year. I was honestly shocked, but the honors kids definitely like to have fun.

Reed and Rutherford are known for being very quiet. Building 1516, which is where I stayed for the beginning of the semester (looooong story), is VERY quiet and is very nice with a large room and private bathroom, but it’s very far from the main part of campus. I currently live in O House and I LOVE it. It’s arguably the best dorm on campus if you factor in location, suite-style rooms, the fact that the best dining hall is 10 feet from your door, and how the halls and lounges are social, but your physical room is quiet. You will regret living in a dorm where no one talks. Trust me.

Also, you can most definitely fill out your housing application without committing to the school. It’s like $30 for the application (I believe). PLEASE fill it out the second you are accepted, whether you’re sure that you’re attending or not. Housing is first-come, first-served, and you definitely want to get your first choice.

Both my students lived in Myers and loved it. Great location.

No Fellows/ Ramseys are not required to live in Myers - though most do.

Hi I know that it has been a while since you posted and you may not see this but just in case…
my daughter was assigned her housing and it’s called “supplemental”. She will be in Russel Hall in a study room with 2-5 other students. She will be assigned a bed, desk and chest of drawers but no closet. There will be a rack shared among the roomates. We are scared to death and very disappointed. We live in St. Louis and she will not be coming home frequently. Thoughts? Thanks, karen

@mkmesmu have you been to orientation yet? We just got back and it sounded like they were still working on housing. I can understand the frustration and after our disappointing time at orientation, I know I probably wouldn’t be able to get my DD to go in the fall if this had happened to her! You might ask what the process is if more beds don’t open up. I know at Alabama, they have given incentives for upperclassmen to move out or have assigned freshmen to apartments (UA pays their rent and fees). One thing I learned from having a kid at UA, EVERYTHING is first come, first served. If registration for something opens at 8am (housing, orientation, football tickets, etc), be online and signed in well ahead of time. Football tickets for my UA DS were sold out in less than 90 seconds this year! Looks like UGA might be similar.
