UGA's Dorms And What They Are Like?

I have submitted early action for UGA, and even though I am not 100% sure I wont be deferred (or that I will go there if accepted), a friend recommended that I pay the $30 and place my top three dorm choices even if I may not go there because housing is first-come first-serve. Only problem is that I am super confused about the “22 residence halls” on campus since they did not go into depth about them or let us see any during my tour. I would ideally like to be in a dorm as close to the center of campus as possible with a private room option (I really value my privacy. I could share a room if needed but would prefer to pay a little extra and have one to myself) and within a close proximity to a dining hall. I don’t mind if its a party dorm (I like to party a bit and I prefer to study in a library anyway since it helps me to focus) and I don’t care if it is co-ed or not (I am a guy though, so keep that in mind). Can someone explain the dorms and maybe suggest which would be best for me?

My D chose the Honors dorm (Myers). Most of the students are in Honors, but not all. It is in the center of campus and convenient to at least 3 dining halls. That said, if she had to do it over again, she would pick the Hill Community or the dorms near the stadium ( I think Reed). Chances are you will not get a private room since upperclassmen get first choice and they will choose those. The ones at East Campus Village have private bedrooms with shared living areas, but they are not as convenient. The dining hall there is very good though.

@FamilyofFive – any reason for your D preferring the other UGA dorms over Myers? Our D18 will probably get into Honors at UGA and we’re trying to figure out the dorm situation.

She is kind of shy and has had a hard time meeting people. Her particular hall is not very social at all. I know the boys floor above her is very social though- she can hear them running up and down the halls and yelling until the early morning hours! She has met a lot of people who live in the Hill area and has visited several times. For whatever reason, she just seems to like it more. She has put in a room change request for spring semester, so we shall see. The part of Myers that I thought would bother her (community bathrooms) has not been an issue at all. The bathroom is always super clean and she never has to wait for a shower, etc.

On another note, have your D apply for Freshman Forum in the fall. They interview a couple of hundred kids, but only take 70 or so. She has really enjoyed that and has met several people that way. They have weekly meetings, socials, do service projects, etc. http://www.ugastudentgovernment.com/freshman-forum
