is this class going to be an easy A? meaning if i do my work and pay attention ill be fine? im doing petroleum enginering so it seemed beneficial to my major. how is banner as a teacher?

Bumped because I’m also taking it and I know nothing about the class or the professor. Haha.

Most UGS classes are designed to be easy and simple. I know this sounds bad, but remember that people who barely got into UT and are in a crazy easy major still take those classes. So, if you’re kinda sorta smart (and if you’re on this forum and worried about getting an A, I’m betting you are!) you’ll get an A. My UGS 303 class last year was an absolute joke. I took a different one, but it was close enough.

yea i just wanted to make sure it was an easy A class lol

Yeah I’m taking that class too. Hope it’s a joke. Ha

What about 302…? I am taking a class that has a flag about writing… I am kinda worry now because it seems that UGS 303 classes are easier. The professor is Worthy Mary…

Dropped it because I looked up an old syllabus and it seems to be very engineering/ecology oriented (which I should have figure out on my own)… signed up for an easy-sounding (but interesting) linguistics one instead. :P

oh im doing engineering so it pays off for me

I don’t know if all the UGS classes are designed to be this way, but my professor last year made it a point that this was a seminar class to help new students (freshmen and transfers mostly) to become better oriented with UT services and the ease into the new college workload. For example in my class (Global Health and Inequalities with Dr. Angel) we had “field trips” to the LBJ museum and different events/lectures on campus, we were given different types of writing assignments that were designed to expose us to different writing styles (persuasive, memo writing, etc) and they were graded based on how closely you conformed to the style, rather than content. We also had a lot of prominent guest speakers, such as the director of the Center of Disease Control in Texas among other speakers. We were also encouraged to go to the writing center for extra credit. All in all, it was meant to show us what UT has to offer while also teaching us material in order to educate and help students get accustomed to college.

I have to admit that it was the most boring class I have ever attended just because it was so unchallenging. I’m glad though, because I had other classes that demanded most of my time and so often times I was able to skip because the notes were posted online and I always studied the night before the test and still pulled off an A in class. I’m not the type of student who normally takes that chance either, but the class was just THAT easy and undemanding. On the other hand, i’ve heard other UGS classes were extremely demanding and difficult so I suggest reading as many reviews as you can.

thanks! that helps tremendously
