UH transfer to TAMU

I am currently a student at The University of Houston and am looking to transfer to the College of Liberal Arts (Political Science) at TAMU. I already filed my application but got rejected automatically due to the 24 graded hours requirement. I only had 16 and knew that would happen but applied so I could submit my spring grades (so i would have 24+ graded hours). Anyways I got a 3.0625 GPA last semester (bad I know) due to pledge ship and issues within the family that demanded a lot of my time. This semester however I'm looking at a 3.75-4.0! I have a ton of extracurricular activities (collegiate lacrosse and highschool sports), volunteer hours and awards (athletic achievements primarily). I wrote a strong essay which included the issues with my family in detail, but I left out pledge ship because thats not a good excuse. I got a 27 on my ACT and wont be submitting my SAT score because my writing was poor. I know my test scores are not that great but as a transfer I don't know how much they matter. Your opinion is appreciated! Thanks!
