UIC-GPPA.

The problem is that the interviewer really doesn't have much time to talk with you. So make sure you impress them with what you do have to say.

ohhhh gotcha...hey did any of you guys stay overnight for the whole honors college experience program??? im not sure if its mandatory because i really don't want to since i only care about the GPPA and not the honors college

No, not at all. I'm scared of the dorms because they're literally in shambles. If I go to UIC next year, I'm getting my own place.

And @ xcrunner,
my mom's friend tells me about 100 or so get 2nd interviews, with 40 getting accepted, because they look for a yield of about 20. Hey, 40% acceptance rate is not that bad, lol.

I got call for 2nd interview too. Honors college dorms are really really nice, no need to fret

Right, but since is such a big commuter campus, I highly doubt any overnight is mandatory.

Hi everyone. I am still waiting for a second interview. I was wondering what color group all of you were in. My friend said that they supposedly go by color groups when deciding for the second interview. Just wondering. Thanks.

If you want, you can pm me.

The majority of the UIC dorms were built in the 1980s or later. They have one building from the 1950s, and that was just recently remodeled. The building which was built during the late 1970s is due for remodeling, and that's is the graduate/professional building. All the east campus dorms were built during the late 80s to early 90s. South campus was built starting 2001 for MRH.
During freshmen orientation, you'll have to spend a night in Commons West.

hey is it true that all of the GPPA med students got the first interview???? i believe there were like 200 or 400...and then 80 of those get the second interview...... and then 40 actually get into the program?

I also got the 2nd call a couple of days ago. I was in the blue group on the 26th Honors interview day, I don't know how many GPPA applicants got the 2nd call back, though.

ppenguin757 - UIC housing is not in "shambles."

As a freshman, if you choose to stay in Honors housing, you'd be in Stukel Towers, the newest residence hall which was built last year and just opened last semester (Fall 2007). Less than 6 months old.

If you choose to stay on East campus, where most freshman choose to stay (if not in Stukel towers), those buildings are about 10 years old - youthful, by Chicago's standards.

Good luck to all of you with 2nd interviews.

Ok, well I guess compared to housing I've seen at other institutions, I personally think it's in shambles.

My mom went to UIC in the late 70s when stuff was being built and she said it was trashed within three years because of the general disorganization of the school. My best friend goes to UIC now (which, btw, she said staying in Commons West for orientation was death) and it's not much better, so I'm guessing it's not a strong foreboding for good upkeep. But that's just using precedent.

And I know "Chicago's standards," I currently live in a building in the city that was built almost 75 years ago. But it's still in better condition than most of the UIC dorms.

I lived in CMW and had no problems with it. The rooms were well maintained. Honors college has housing in CMW as well as Stukel towers. CMW was built in 1992, not exactly a long time ago.
UIC did not exist during the 1970s. The campuses were still separate. UIC did not exist until 1982. The East campus did not even have housing. The first east side dorm was built in the 80s after the merger. West campus, UIMC at the time, did have housing, but it was not for UICC students. Of the three buildings, two have been recently remodeled, respectively in 2003 and 2006. They are planning on remodeling the third building, SSR which was built in the 1970s.

The UIC campus that's currently on Harrison and Halsted, then called "Circle Campus" opened in 1965, so yes, it did exist in the 70s. Otherwise, she wouldn't have a diploma from the 70s in her office.

And according to my mom, it did have housing, but it was demolished before the merger.

hey guys why dont we bring the focus back to GPPA and things about the program . . . we could discuss housing under other topics.

good luck to everyone with all of their interviews 1st or 2nd or whichever.

:)

Yeah, good luck with people who have them this week! The final interview seems so short compared to other programs, though.

peinguin--you've been to the second one already?

how was it?

yesterday was the first interview date . . .

As a courtesy to the process, I think most individuals will refrain from posting about their second interview.

All I can say is leave early because parking is a mess.

No, I'm just saying that from the times that I was given, it seems like it's a simple 30 minute interview, which is really short compared to other programs.

Did anyone else get called for the first interview on Feb 16th? This seems kind of late, considering the dates for the second interview are the 13th and the 20th... I applied for GPPA medicine too. Does that mean I'v probably already been weeded out?
