UIC-GPPA.

me too I got the acceptance letter too, lol I was so excited to open the letter when I saw UIC on it, but then realized they would only call you for a second interview, but I guess I am too optimistic and nervous about it since I thought my interview was decent, not too bad/we had a nice chat, I think?

anyways lol best of luck to everyone, and to people that got accepted to other BS/MD programs, accept those offers, so other people can get a chance lol!

happy spring break everyone!

it was the acceptance offer to UIC Liberal arts school not GPPA yet

it could not have been GPPA since the decision is not set to be released till the week of the 31st

huzzah...u tell em lilshamz

ok I know it's coming that week, he didnt need to tell me, nm...lol w/e

what do they ask you in the second interview?
like.. questions on why you want to become a doctor and etc?
or about your personality? about your interests?

They ask a lot of questions, but many of the questions are ones that deepen a point that you have already brought up.

Yeah, just be very, very confident about what you want to say.

okay. thank you

does anyone know how many people they accept for GPPA Dentistry?

yeah they accept 4 people every year, its a strict rule since the dental school doesn't offer many reserved seats...Joey Volpe told me that about 50-55 people applied this year...

well pharmacy is less competitive with 50 people accepted out of 100 applicants, so 50% is pretty good

med/dent are most competitive, medicine had about 400 applicants with 90 second round interviews and 40 people accepted next week

but did anyone get a second interview for GPPA dentistry???

when is the second interview that people are talking about and do you get the call 2 days before interview or week before?

its usually a week before and i believe this week is the final interviews so all the calls should be done

yup its tomorrow
i'm soo nervous

there are also interviews this thursday

lol thats great, I think I am not getting a second interview, which is partly due to the fact I think my ACT is not 33 or above since it seems like GPPA focuses on that, oh well, that's life

anyways I think my first interview went really well, but I guess I wasn't what they were looking for, but I'm not that disappointed considering the competition and how many people applied, and many people have complained about this program... but I don't know why they complain besides GPPA doesn't let you explore many routes ?

good luck to parcoeur and anyone else!

the whole point of GPPA is to allow students the freedom to venture out and experience things that they ordinarily may avoid for fear of that getting in the way of medical school so i would strongly disagree with the idea that GPPA does not allow you to explore many routes.

good luck to everyone . . . one more week!

The other complaint that a lot of people have is that although it allows you to explore new routes, UIC is not the best place to do it. In essence, some people see it as a huge sacrifice for what you're getting in the end.

copied from wikipedia, take it for what you will:

UIC is one of 88 American universities recognized as Carnegie 1 Research Institutions by the Carnegie Foundation[20]. The U.S. News and World Report ranked UIC as a third-tier university in its 2007 issue. In 2005, National Science Foundation statistics ranked UIC 48th out of the more than 650 universities receiving federal research expenditures, surpassing one Big Ten Conference university and the University of Chicago[21].

In 2007, UIC tied for 59th-76th place in the best academic universities in North America and tied for 102nd-150th place in the world by an annual listing of the Top 500 World Universities, published by the Institute of Higher Education in Shanghai, China.[22]

UIC has been publicly recognized as a diverse and welcoming community. US News & World Report repeatedly ranks UIC in the top 10 most diverse universities in the nation and in 2006, was ranked by Advocate College Guide as one of the nation's top 100 GLBT friendly campuses...

for myself, i'm not trying to say that UIC is a top school, but its not a crap school either--there are opportunities to be had.

so which is better...the 200 grand at an Ivy or a full ride plus med school at UIC with the option of applying out for a better med school and still keeping your spot

So I got a scholarship to UIC for $5,000 a year + $1,000 restricted to other fees. I'm not sure if that's a good sign or a bad sign.

sounds good to me.
all uic offered me were loans.....like i need to be offered loans.....
I've given up on uic, really pointless.... plus loyola is giving me so much more money........uic really isnt worth it...

yeah I gave up hope on GPPA last week after Joey Volpe told me if you don't get a call, you probably won't get a second interview...

I did get accepted to the Honors College, and I do like those EC's and volunteering things they offer. So I will say UIC does offer opportunities since some ppl went bonanzas when I said they don't, but I partly said that since my group tour leader said some bad stuff...

She said some of her friends has posters in their room that say "UIC suck", and they just go to the school since their in GPPA or they just want to go to their med school....

I think overall UIC is a reputable university that offers a solid foundation in science with opportunities in research....that's my opinion

yeah, I would imagine UIC not to give many scholarships since their TUITION is really LOW...but I hear they are increasing it ??? my dad saw something in news

anyways I guess soon people will find out their acceptances, post if you got in or not and your stats if you dont mind, since I want to see how much of an impact they have...

good luck to all!

i got that scholarship too....that $5,000 + $1,000 one....it kinda sounded like it was for Honors College though? im not sure
