Can anyone compare these two schools? (Location, academics, quality of education, prestige, etc.....) Thanks.

bump..........

Well I know they both have similar rated business programs per U.S. News/Business Week rankings.

DePaul in my views is considered to be the better school because to me, it has a better reputation and has tougher(not real tough, but tougher compared to UIC) admission standards.

But then again, UIC, since it is a public institution, has a cheaper tuition.

Thanks for the reply. Can you give me a ballpark estimate of the accepted GPA for both schools as well as ACT score? Thanks again.

go there, it will be your friend, it will tell you almost everything you need to know

Estimate GPA

for UIC: probably as low as 2.7-2.9

for DePaul: probably gotta be in the 3.0's(but can be accepted if u have a lower GPA in the 2's, BUT YOU HAVE TO GO INTO THEIR BRIDGE PROGRAM OVER THE SUMMER).

Estimate ACT:

for UIC: lowest is 17 or 18 that they'll accept.

for DePaul: probably 20ish is the lowest they'll take.

Both are very good colleges. UIC has more programs (e.g., engineering). Middle 50% range for ACT is about 21-26 for DePaul and 20 to 26 for UIUC (but it depends on program as UIC's engineering program is higher). Under 3 GPA is low end for both of them; you should really be in the 3.3 range for DePaul and 3.4 for UIC to be safe. (It is not really easier to get into UIC than De Paul.)

UIC has a very good location west of the loop (Chicago's downtown area). The area it is in used to be bad years ago but has been totally gentrified and is now very good.

On the other hand, DePaul, if you like being in a big city area, not only has a very nice campus but is probably the most ideally located city university in the nation. It is part of Chicago's Lincoln Park area, considered a premier area of the city with everything nearby -- restaurants, stores, expensive townhomes/condos, night spots, etc.

What is the Bridge Program? Is it absolutely necessary?

It's necessary if you're GPA and/or ACT scores were too low. I know a guy who had to go into the Bridge Program, it's like this 1.5 month summer school type of program. I don't know exactly what classes you take and stuff or what you do, but I know the guy was in it for the majority of the summer(since his GPA was lower than DePaul would accept usually).

So if you're GPA isn't that high(like it's in the 2.5's-2.7's) and say you got below a 20 ACT, or something, just for example, they might make you take the Bridge Program if they do accept you.

And I would say it is easier to get into UIC than DePaul. Maybe the other poster feels different, but I have sites and I've been given information by college counselors that proves otherwise, that proves that UIC is easier to get into than DePaul.

Thanks for the reply. What about a 2.7 and a 23? Is that good enough for either and does it require the bridge program?

ACT wise, I think you're fine. A 23 is pretty good. Are you taking it anymore? Like the June one or whatever?

As for the GPA, a 2.7 is iffy. I think a 23 shows that you are smarter than what your GPA shows, but what I would try to do is try to raise that GPA to a 2.9 or so by the end of this year(if possible), or else try to get a 25 GPA or so.

Cause with that GPA, they may make you go into the Bridge Program. I don't know for sure.

I would talk to a school counselor or something who may be more knowledgable. What high school do you go to since you're defintely in Chicago area?

Gbn...............

i see, i go to stevenson.
