UIUC Dorms/Roommates

Does anybody know what is the best place/website that we can post ad looking for a roommate?

Illini Tower is $1000 extra for living in a small suite with 3 other people. Each suite has 2 double rooms, a bathroom, living room, and kitchen. Kinda like your basic 2-bedroom apartment.

The advantage to staying in the dorms your freshman year is that you'll have a ton more opportunity to socialize (and that doesn't necessarily mean party), than you would in private housing. If you're someone who likes to study, there's an incredible number of libraries and such around campus that are good for studying. If you think making friends and getting involved beyond your schoolwork isn't your thing....you might consider that this school isn't for you. College is more than just your classes.

And yes, there are things to do besides drink and party. Doing nothing but drinking and partying denotes a lack of creativity and/or motivation.

agreed, except doing nothing but drinking denotes alcoholism and my roommate.

I'd like to bring back up a previous question on this thread about the best online site to find a roommate...obviously this site isnt active enough or heavily enough used so it's out.

does uiuc have a questionnaire for you to fill out before they assign you to someone or is it better to try and find your own roommate rather than chancing the lottery?

I'm from massachusetts, so it's not like I know anyone that will be/is going there already.

there is no questionnaire and its fine to try the lottery. i did and sometimes i feel like i got lucky and other times feel like i got shafted.

I left it up to the lottery, and got along really well with my roommate. But I know others who nearly got into a war with their roommate. It's really a luck-of-the-draw thing.

sort of a lottery thing

Hey does anyone know if the your chances increase if you dont select a preferred roommate? Im hoping to get into ISR? BTW whats the next best thing to ISR, that is closest to the engineering quad

Thanks

i would imagine that it would increase your chances, but after ISR, put down peabody and gregory.

these are good because they have multiple campus buses that go near the engineering quad, as well as the regular champaign urbana busses. combining all these busses, a bus comes effectively every 10 minutes at the latest, and at certain times like 8:40am, every 5 minutes or even less (ive gone out and a bus was just leaving and another one was right behind it). the only reason i state peabody first is because it is closer to the gym (across the street), and the stop in front of peabody has more champaign-urbana busses that pass by it. so for your 3, put these in this order: ISR, Peabody, Gregory

I don't believe that whole "freshman have trouble getting into ISR" pitch. I lived there as a freshman, and over half of my floor were freshman.
