UIUCVSPUrdue IE major

Hi
I was both admitted to UIUC and Purdue IE major. UIUC's Engineering College is currently ranked higher Than Purdue.(UIUC#5 and PUrdue#9, bUT in IE,it's different. UIUC#11 or lower. Purdue#3) the rankings are done by US News.
First, I do care about the rankings. But I think they are really close. I can't decide the weight between Engineering college and IE major.
Second, I am sure that I like IE major than any sort of Engineering. But I am both interested in humanity.I wish that i could take as much as courses concerning history , writing, Spanish, French etc. But I am not sure whether it's possible for me to take all of them, for I know that IE is tough. I wish to make my eyesight as broader as possible.
Third, I dont like those cold or wet things. Unluckily, they have both cold winter.
Fourth, I care about the dorms for freshman. I know that UIUC doesn't offer private bathrooms for undergraduate. I am not sure about PUrdue (for girls)
Fifth, I am an international student. and I do expect job internship during MY first year College life.
Sixth, I checked on the website that Purdue's fees are 35,000 and UIUC's are 42,000.
I dont know whether UIUC is worth it.

I am always drived crazy by these questions.

Would you help me?
I will be really really apreciated for your help
THANK YOU

Please speak up!
Thanks for reading my long long passage.

I’d say you go to Purdue. It is cheaper for an international student.

1) Regardless of what you care, the rankings are so close that it is basically a wash. In undergraduate engineering, 3 vs 11 isn’t a HUGE difference. Graduate school is another monster.

2) Illinois is, in general, a better school for non-engineering than Purdue, but if you plan to stick with engineering, then the ranking of the humanities classes doesn’t matter. If you expect to potentially switch out of IE, then you might consider this factor.

3) In the midwest, you won’t escape cold winters and hot summers. Sorry.

4) UIUC does have some dorms with private bathrooms (or semi-private) if you go with the Certified Private Housing. I am not sure about Purdue though.

5) There is almost no chance of getting an internship your first year of school. I can count on one hand the number of people I know who got an internship after only one year of school, and that includes the people that I know from both schools. It just generally doesn’t happen.

6) Purdue is certainly cheaper, which should definitely be factored into your decision.

Personally, I go to UIUC, but in your situation I would think long and hard about going to Purdue instead. It all comes down to personal preference though.

When I read the title of this thread I thought it was going to be about the Industrial Engineering major lol.

I can’t help you determine which program is better but for some reason UIUC’s IE stands out more. To me, UIUC in general seems to be an upgraded version of Purdue. But this is just a personal, probably illogical, claim (I haven’t been to either of the school but will probably attend UIUC in the fall). I am too looking forward to the IE major :)

yeah,
though UIUc is a bit expensive, But I think UIUC’s humanity courses will be better than Purdue.(their professors or other resourses). And undergrad should be well-rounded( I mean both speaking and writing abilities) .
Am I right?@_@

Overall, UIUC has much higher academic reputation. Its science majors are very strong too, such as Physics and Chemistry, but if talking about $7K more each year, it is really hard to say if it is worth …

so.still a tough question$_$

I’d still go to Purdue. Money is one thing. the other is that Engineering in Purdue is good enough (actually I should say very good).

If you calculate the tuition fee carefully, I believe the tuition fee of UIUC and Purdue are about the same… the reason that it`s 42000 for UIUC is because UIUC add random thing for international students that you might need (eg.Place to stay during summer, plane ticket to go back to your country)… so I dont think the cost will be that much of a different… I would choose UIUC because of stronger overall program and students…

iwotic is right about the money. If compare the tuition&fee + Room/board only, the difference would be $4374 (used the average of UIUC’s tuition&fee). However, both schools ignored the fact that the international students need an extra 3 months of room/board unless they have relatives in the States who are willing to provide free room/board.

I have checked both websites for engineering.
for 2009–2010 Nonresident
Purude
Tuition/Fees
$24,160*+$690(engineering)/+1070(Management)
Room/Board
$8,330
Books/Supplies
$1,240
Total $34,420

UIUC
Non-residents
Tuition and fees $30,176*
Books and supplies $1,200
Room and board (20 meals/week) $8,764
Total $40,140
So the difference will be $5720 every year.( Purude’s tutiton may go up next year,But UIUC doesn’t)
I still haven’t a firm mind of the decison.
So have you ever compared their humanity courses( professors or class size), Recreation facilities, library, and the most important dorm(facilities or life)
I would be appreciated to hear any ideas of those things.
THANK YOU SO MUCH~~~~~

did u get any merit from purdue? its easier to get aid from them i think then UIUC

I didn’t apply to it(not enough time,for school’s work si tough then)
So neither from Purdue or UIUc
