UK Colleges

Does anyone know the requirements for colleges in UK like camb, imperial etc? I know that CBSE isn't 'sufficient' from their website. For someone who's still in 11th and is not taking AP what tests are needed to be taken other that the usual SAT1,2. BTW, if anyone knows of a website like cc for uk colleges could you please tell me. Do they need school 9,10,11,12 transcripts as well?

For Imperial, Cambridge and Oxford you need to give your A/AS Levels-it is possible to do so as a private candidate. Contact British Council, they’ll tell you how to go about it.

nkhlgerorge is right. For Top UK colleges like Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial you have to do GCE - A levels(As/A) of Cambridge International Board. And it can be done even as external student. No other exams are needed, you can get a direct admission if you have taken this board. if your target is universities of lower rankings, than CBSE board might be alright.

Apart from Oxford, Cambridge and LSE (maybe Imperial too, idk) most schools accept CBSE/state board.
I have heard from Brit Council though that students have managed to convince the folks at Ox/Cam/LSE to let them forego the GCE A level requirement. But don’t bank on this as an option out, because most of those who go do take A levels and this is a very rare occurance.

Oh, another thing- haven’t the deadlines already passed? If I remember correctly (and I’m sure this could be wrong) the deadline was October for the above three.

Deadline for oxford, cambridge = 15 Oct.
Deadline for imperial = 15 Jan.

you sure compscifan??

i thought they had a common app deadline of October

sure sure.
There’s the ucas application (which is similar to the common application) that you’d use to apply to these colleges.

ah! UCAS-thats what its called!!

Did you apply to any university in the UK?

Nay! I had not even considered studying abroad when the deadline for these ( oxford, cambridge) colleges passed. Imperial’s the only one that’s left now.

I … don’t know actually if I’ll apply Imperial. Deadline’s 15 na, and there’s only one personal statement to write… I’ll see.

What about the A levels-you gave them?

if you’re applying to oxford or cambridge, then you can show them your SAT scores, because they do look at SAT scores when US students apply. but then oxford and cambridge are always long shots, and are almost as hard to get in as any ivy league university.

I am doing the IB diploma programme and the only things I think they considered were my predicted grades, recommendations, personal statement and EC’s. i don’t know if they looked at each and every grade I received during high school. I don’t know what they do with indian students though. i think you probably will have to take the TOEFL/IELTS. and oxbridge and imperial usually receive outstanding personal statements, so you better start work on PS if you haven’t already! :)

I got offers from Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Leeds and an interview from Loughborough. I couldn’t apply to Imperial because it’s too expensive.
