UM Engineering or LSA Help

Hello,

I have been having trouble for a while deciding whether I want to apply for CoE or LSA.

I am currently a CS major at my University but would much rather be in CoE than LSA at Michigan. This is because I either plan to do CE (Computer Engineering), EE (Electrical Engineering), or stay in CS (I would prefer to do CS at CoE just because I feel like I would be a better fit there as I am better in STEM subjects).

So the reason why I am considering LSA is because of two reasons:

  1. I am worried about the competitiveness of Engineering and feel that I would have a higher likelihood of getting in at LSA

  2. I really want to go to UM ASAP, so that would mean applying for Spring 2021 (got rejected for Fall 2021 LSA BTW), and if I were to do all the engineering prerequisites by then, I would have a very rigorous workload this summer and for Fall 2021 which would be very stressful.

I also thought about applying to LSA and doing a cross-campus transfer too, but their requirement is 55+ credits (I would have 65-75 including the classes I would be taking at that time) and I also took all the required maths (Calc 1-3 & am taking Lin Alg over this upcoming summer).

Based on this information, do you guys think I should apply for LSA or Engineering? Or maybe I should consider LSA Spring 2021 and if I get rejected apply to Engineering Fall 2022? Let me know.

I know this is a lot of information, but I will appreciate any responses or thoughts given to me. Thank you so much.

I’m confused - if you got denied for Fall 21, how could you get in for Spring 21 (which comes first chronologically)? Do you mean Spring 22?

If you don’t think you can complete the CoE prereqs with strong grades prior to applying, then it might not be the best plan to apply to CoE. I’m not sure if that’s the case but you mentioned you’d have a very rigorous workload trying to do so.

Meant Spring 2022, sorry. Yeah, LSA would probably be the smartest choice. Thanks.
