“Uconn is a much better school and so is Delaware.”
I strongly disagree, and I bet many others would too.

I also disagree. umass business certainly seems better than UCONN and Delaware.
Have any deferred students heard back yet?
My S is still waiting. Wondering if there was a screw up somewhere with his application. So strange that he has heard nothing at all.
No. Not expecting anything this week either.
Still waiting too…
Umass is definitely harder to get into than plenty of better schools like uconn and penn state
A bit of humor as some of us (or our kids) await the inevitable rejection letter. “the Admissions Committee once again sent candidates like you multiple enticing pamphlets encouraging you to apply, knowing full well we had no intention of accepting you.” http://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/an-honest-college-rejection-letter
@Hnadler1017 - I don’t see how UMass is benefiting from denying you, like you are implying. You say your GPA is a “93” which is somewhere between a 3.6 and a 3.7. The average UMass student has a 3.8 and has taken multiple AP’s and is in the top 15% of their class. I don’t know about your SAT’s but that GPA indicates you are slightly below the average student. UConn’s overall average sat score is within 10 points of UMass and their GPA is quite close as well, so perhaps you got lucky with them. Best of luck with college.
@BigBang231 - Penn State (University Park) actually has lower stats than Umass… (http://■■■■■■■.com/p2dts5g) (http://■■■■■■■.com/pmb9r7h) It does have a 56% acceptance rate which is lower than Umass’s 61%, but in core stats, SAT and GPA, UMass wins hands down. This is less true for UConn which is slightly above in the SAT but is only ten points or so higher than UMass. Also, they also have very similar GPA’s so I would say it’s a tossup depending on you major. (Go with whichever is cheaper when undecided or go to UMass if you want Engineering or Business) BTW- Those stats in the link where a year old Umass’s current stats are a 1220 (M+R) SAT and a 3.8 GPA.
My S has an SAT score of 1340 (M&R) 1980 total & an unweighted GPA of 3.62 - weighted it is well over 4 due to AP & honors classes but I don’t know the exact number & I know UMass does weight the GPA scores. He is still waiting to hear from UMass - Mechanical Engineering sigh
Hi guys. A LITTLE HELP PLEASE. My name is Tevin. I’m from Kenya. So I got accepted to UMass Amherst Class of 2018 Computer Sci with some really little aid ($8000). Do you guys know of any way I can get some aid from the Financial Aid office? I saw on their site and it says Internationals don’t qualify for aid.
@TeejayAduma Your last sentence answers your question.
Hello, I am an international student applying to UMass Amherst. Can anyone help me find any websites for scholarships because I badly want to go to UMass. Thank you…
@fallenwinter That is not helpful
@TeejayAduma - you have our sympathy but I don’t think many if any of us can help you. We simply don’t have any knowledge to share with you. My question is more… If you are indeed an international student why did you expect the school to give you $$ to attend? This is a state school after all and its primary fiscal obligation is to the tax paying citizens of Massachusetts. Very few if any of us know about international scholarships. That should be your starting point and a critical component of your college research before you applied and were accepted.
@TeejayAduma If the website specifically states that internationals don’t qualify for aid, then I don’t know why you think UMass will bend the rules for you.
can anybody help me out please. Any legitimate websites which can give scholarships that you guys can suggest?
@mahjfan ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ is a great search engine for scholarships. So is fastweb.com and ■■■■■■■■■■ also has one. If you are assuming Umass Amherst will give you more money than the scholarship they gave you than I am sorry to inform you that they do not give aid to international students.
Is anyone else waiting to hear back that applied regular. I applied to the comp sci program. I have a 3.9 weighted GPA, 1310 m+Cr, strong ECs and essay. A few of my classmates have heard back, most of their stats are slightly lower than mine, but none of them applied for the comp sci program. I’ve already been admitted to maryland, uconn, and Clark for comp sci. I emailed umass and they said they will be mailing out admissions till April. But I’m starting to get a little worried, especially considering I’ve narrowed it down to Maryland and umass. Btw I’m in state.
