@cougar97 son submitted his app Dec 1, and spire said under review for weeks. Received letter of acceptance in mail Monday, letter dated March 10. As of today spire has not changed. Still says under review. We are in Westchester county NY.
My daughter has a 3.9 GPA class rank is 19/357 and is a member of National Honor Society. She also has over 200 community service hours and has already completed an internship through her High Schools cooperative learning program. However she did attend a vocational high school so I am afraid that will affect her chances of getting in. Her application has been under review since mid-December. She is hoping to be accepted into Isenberg, but hasn’t heard anything back yet. Should I be worried?
My son hasn’t heard back yet either. We are in NH. He is an Eagle Scout, GPA of 3.62 unweighted, with lots of AP & honors classes. He is in the band/marching band - saxophone. SAT of 1980. National Honor Society. Top 20% at his school (one of the best in the state). Track & fencing. He is trying for Mechanical Engineering. We have already heard back from his other schools…getting nervous.
If you look at last year’s decision thread some applicants were not informed until the first week of April - even past April 1 - this is a terribly long time to keep people waiting but such was the case for some last year.
I can second @Sapphire50’s comment. You may not hear until early April. Waiting does increase anxiety doesn’t it? I really don’t understand how UMass Amherst can justify such a broad turn around response time as students/parents need to compare FA packages, and visit schools for a 1st or 2nd time to make a decision by May 1st. If your son’s portal says “under review” then you may expect a decision earlier than April. Since my DS was deferred we don’t expect a response until the very end. :-"
Has anyone (in the US) received a letter of acceptance today - or yesterday? Just wondering what is going on out there
I might add that son received letter of acceptance in snail mail Monday (letter was dated March 10) and as of today, March 18, Spire still says Under Review, and under consideration for acceptance. So Spire is not necessarily a reliable indicator of your status.
FYI… D received acceptance letter back in January under EA. (It is one of her top 2 choices). The other day D received a phone call from UMASS AMherst asking if she was still interested and considering attending. She said yes, it is one of her top 2 choices. Her friends have been receiving similar calls from some of other colleges. I think it is good because if early on they can find the people who committed elsewhere they can make even more acceptance offers then their original calculation would allow for, (in my opinion) before May 1st.
@Sapphire50 looks like I should be receiving it any day now! Thank
You so much
My application was processed in January 6 but I still haven’t heard back. Should I be worried?
I have a GPA of 3.71 and 3 AP classes but I’m worried since my sat scores for math and reading are 450CR and 560 math. I came as a refugee in the end of 2009 so my English wasn’t enough for a decent score in CR. I’m writing this and I’m literally freaking out since some students in my school already received the acceptance letter
Just had an email conversation with the UMass people. They said that the SPIRE portal gets updated 10 Days after the decision letters have been sent(i.e. the date on the letter).
D’s boyfriend got accepted today into the engineering program. He was waiting anxiously after being deferred from both WPI and RPI. What a relief for him. We are in MA if that helps anyone, I imagine his acceptance was by email.
I know how he feels its absolutely a great relief i hope I get in too!
hi everyone! I was deferred EA to the Isenberg. I ended up switching to undecided for RD because I decided I didn’t want to do business anymore. Is it true deferred students hear back last?
Mostapha, SAT scores are definitely not the end of world and I’m well aware that student from aboard have hard time with SAT. If you don’t get accepted in Umass Amherst, don’t worry. You can join CC for your associate degree and under MASS transfer move to Any UMASS [Amherst,Lowell,Boston]. Mass transfer has articulated agreement with Umass amherst for Engineering,Biology. Plus 33% of tuition fee will be automatically waived off. That’s what my brother did so.
Thank you a lot, that was really helpful, but do you think i have a chance of being admitted?
@Nomads77 Actually for UMA its 100% tuition waived.
@fallenwinter, ya it’ll be 100% waived after all the merit base aid and financial base aid but Mass Transfer guarantees only 33% waiver from their side if you have 3.0+ GPA.
@Nomads77 @fallenwinter that program is tuition only–about $800 per semester.
Just curious about instate kids that have been accepted. My son was accepted for Engineering and Honors College however merit award of 2K. 3/308 class rank 4.88 gpa 2190 SAT NHS STCO. Not to be cheap but other schools are offering more and to be fair I’m basing that on a percentage of tuition cost 50% vs 14% 5 AP his year 2 AP last year
