I just transferred to UMass Isenberg School of Management to finish my undergraduate degree in Marketing. I was accepted to the honors college and got a full-ride scholarship, so even though I applied to other schools, I ended up accepting UMass’s offer. The problem is, I have been browsing through the courses offered at UMass in the areas I am interested in and it has been making me kind of depressed – I care deeply about my academic studies and want to take classes that are very stimulating and engaging, classes that I am really passionate about, but there seem to be very few marketing courses offered at UMass, and they do not sound particularly interesting. Is this not the case? Isenberg is supposed to have a good reputation, and I have heard many good things about it… But when I look through the courses, I am not impressed in the slightest. They don’t even offer an Integrated Marketing Communications course! The only “interesting”/unique courses they seem to offer typically have some sort of “sustainability” component tied into the course material… Which is great, but I wish their courses had a little more diversity!
I guess my question is, are the courses offered at UMass Isenberg unique and interesting, or are they sort of bland? If they are kind of cookie-cutter, textbook material courses, how would you suggest making the time as an undergraduate Marketing/Business student at Isenberg more interesting and worthwhile? I do not want to waste the remainder of my undergraduate education attending classes I’m not particularly interested in and trying to make do with something that just doesn’t really fit my interests and doesn’t directly relate to what I want to do for my post-graduate career. Obviously, this is not UPenn, but I’m disappointed that I’m not more excited about any of the courses offered at UMass. And I’ve spent a number of hours combing through the catalog.
Please let me know what you think and tell me about your experience at UMass as an Isenberg undergrad! I look forward to hearing what you have to say!
Thanks so much
