UMBC defferred?

I just got a letter this week from UMBC saying that I have been defferred.

GPA: 3.54 (Unweighted)
4.17 Weighted
African American (If race matters)
SAT:
CR: 580
Math: 510
Writing: 600
(English second Language)

My school’s registrar sent my transcripts a month late for some reason and I wasn’t aware of that until I started getting messages from my schools saying I was missing docs.

I AM involved in ECs—leadership positions as student ambassador…and some varsity sport (two years)

Do you think the fact that my transcript was sent a month late increased my competition? I know students who had lower GPAs and got accepted.
I know I am not an Above Average student so please be positive. I am looking at more schools to apply to.

The only thing I could see that led to that was your sat math scores, you have a great gpa.

@Invader71 Thank you so much. Yes, I do think my math SAT score is on the weak side. I wonder if I have a chance during Reg Decision admission cycle

all i could suggest is keep up your grades and maybe retake the SAT if you have time.

Don’t worry! I had similar stats to you – same GPA, similar test scores (and my math was even lower - 440!), and similar level of involvement and I was also deferred at UMBC’s Early Action round. Lo and behold, I was accepted for Regular Decision! I’m positive you’ll be accepted. Early Action at UMBC is a fairly competitive round, and there are lots of perfectly qualified students who get deferred because Admissions wants to accept/woo the academic superstars first. Good luck with your other schools.

@Tenpakun Thank you for the support. My counselor and career center specialists gave me similar explanations and I feel so much better now.
