Hey
does anyone kno the average partial tuition students get for being meyerhoff finalists? Has anyone ever gotten to finals if so please enlighten me!

Meyerhoff Finalists don’t all get money. They go to selection weekend where, out of about 220 kids, 50 are chosen to make that year’s cohort (group of scholars). I’m not a hundred percent sure on the breakdown of who gets the full and who gets the partial.

One thing that you need to understand, and that they tell you repeatedly throughout selection weekend, is that everyone who is invited is ACADEMICALLY qualified to become a Meyerhoff scholar [what it came down to this year was 2300 nominations, 900 applications, and 220 selected, 110 instate and 110 out of state]. The weekend is basically to recruit students to see who would best fit into the “family” that is a cohort. They aim for diversity— of not only race but major, future plans, socioeconomic backgrounds, et cetera.

Also, the weekend is your chance to be with students like you. They inspire you to do great and encourage you even if you don’t become a Meyerhoff scholar.

Is there anything else you’d like to know?

Did you attend this past weekend? I am going this coming Friday. Did you also apply to Honors and have you heard anything about that?

Thank you very much Neocutey!
Missymouse, I went this past weekend. No I didn’t apply to the honors college. But the dean of the honors college said that applications are still Going to be accepted until they fill all spots

Small, small world. BrightFuture, I was there this past weekend, too! Like you can tell from my post, I thought it was amazing.

Can I ask how you guys did on the math placement tests?

I didn’t have to take the Math placement test since I scored a 5 on the AP test for Calculus BC

Oh wow missymouse that’s great! As for me neocutey, I can take calculus next year. I got a 271/321 not that great =

Oh srry that was for the algebra. As for the calc test I think it was a 201/251

Yeah, I placed into calc, too. I would suppose that all the Meyerhoffs did. Good luck this weekend missymouse! Do you guys really want the Meyerhoff and to go to UMBC? I do. If I get it, I’m going.

I am leaning towards UMBC right now but bottom line is going to be cost. If another college is more financially feasible I would go there. I am planning to attend professional school so want to take on a minimum of debt.

I would definetly go if I get in. If I don’t then cost will be one the deciding factor.
Goodluck missymouse! The food is gonna be greeaaaatt!! =)))

They did feed us well. That’s always a good sign.

hey guys. I too was at the in state selection weekend. How do you guys know if you are able to take calc or not? like how do you know what your scores mean?

Hey, decisionsX2! I went to the part where is said FAQs and they gave me the breakdown for your score. I think if you got a 250 on the Algebra test and a 300 on the calculus readiness test, you placed into Calculus. Don’t quote me on the calculus readiness score but I’m sure enough about the algebra one.

How did you feel about the weekend?

Thank you Neocutey24 :)

As for the weekend I had a blast. It was really nice to be around people who were as serious about getting a good education as I was while also being really friendly and fun. Meyerhoff would be an amazing oppertunity and a great learning environment. I hope I get in, but if not I may still go to UMBC and be an affiliate

Thank you Neocutey24 Could you try to access it again and tell me if you can?

For, me the weekend was really enjoyable. I wasn’t quite sure about Meyerhoff before, but now I realize what a great experience it would be and what a great learning environment it provides. The part i was worried about most was the interview, but I had prepared so it went really well. Even if I don’t get it, I may still attend umbc and still be involved in the program as an affiliate.

btw if your wondering why i posted twice it’s because one of my computers is really crappy (the first post) and it took a really long time for the post to go through ( a couple hours) so i thought it didn’t take. That’s when i sent the second one :)

Hey, I am planning on applying for the scholarship program. Can any of you tell me what it takes to get in (SAT score, ECs, and GPA).

You have to be nominated by your school first. Then you have to fill out the application and be picked to attend a selection weekend. I can’ recall the exact numbers but it was something like 2000 nominated, 220 invited to attend a selection weekend for a cohort of 50-60.

Don’t know exactly the SAT and GPA range. Seems like at the weekend I attended the SAT ranged from about 1260/1600 to 1500/1600 and GPA’s were around 3.5-4.0 UW and 3.85-5.0 Weighted. Many of the students nominated had research experience.
