These are the schools I've been ACCEPTED to so far...still waiting on some reaches. But, if these are my only choices which would best prepare/help me get into medical school. Ideally I'd want to go to Penn or Chicago for med.... Also consider that I have a FULL RIDE to Howard U and that I was invited to Northeastern's Honors program. I am OOS for UMBC. Any opinions/thoughts/complaints are WELCOME. Thanks

i would say either go to fordham or northeastern as long as you can afford them. Although your going to need alot of money for med school so it would be wise to save as much money as possible during undergrad and go where you will do the best.

Thank You for replying :)

Why do you say Fordham or Northeastern? Just based on the name or something specific?

No one has any thoughts?

What is your financial situation like? Would you have to take out loans?

How would the net cost after scholarships and financial aid compare?

Remember that medical school is expensive; you do not want to spend a lot or take on a lot of debt for undergraduate if you want to go to medical school. A full ride looks like a good deal for this purpose.

What would your major be, and do all of the schools have a good degree program in the major? (No specific major is required to do pre-med, although there is a set of pre-med courses required.)

My financial situation is…nonexistent lol. My EFC is 0…I’d have to take out loans for everywhere but Howard obviously. But I don’t want to risk my med school chances…if money was no object which would be best?

Also, Not sure about scholarships. I’m a National Merit (and Achivement) Semifinalist so I might qualify for full tuition from Fordham.

well since finances are extremely important in your situation, I would say go to Howard nothing beats a full ride. It is not wise to go into alot of debt for your undergrad and even more debt for med school.

Med school admission is heavily numbers-based. That means that your overall GPA, your GPA in the pre-med courses, and your MCAT score matter much more than the name on your diploma. If Howard is free, then that is the price to beat. Period. The only reason to choose a slightly more expensive place would be because you have rock-solid evidence that you would be able to get better grades there, and that you would be better prepared for the MCAT.

If you are concerned about med school admissions from Howard, pick up the phone and have a chat with the pre-med advisor there. That person will be able to tell you exactly how many pre-meds are accepted to which med schools each year.

Howard has a [medical school](http://medicine.howard.edu/default.htm) and hospital. This can make it convenient to do typical pre-med extracurriculars (shadowing, volunteering, etc.), as well as get pre-med advising.

Add in the full ride and it is hard for the other schools to compete.

Based on your name and the reference to the National Merit scholarship I’m assuming you are an African-American. If so, Howard will offer you social opportunities that the others probably will not. This may or may not be important to you. Money is important though.

Past administrations of Howard have been pretty autocratic and not always student friendly although I have no idea about the current group.
