I’m really worried about getting into UMD, which is my reach school and my #1 school.
my weighted cumulative gpa is a 4.16 and unweighted a 3.48. My SAT superscore is a 1230.
i have taken several rigorous AP/honors courses and done well (As and Bs) in all of them…except math. I have gotten 3 Cs in math which will show on my transcript and am super scared that those are gonna hurt me a lot in terms of getting in. i had a lot of personal things going on and it really screwed me over in math…but idk if my other grades, which are not bad, will even make up for that.
do u think i even have a chance? i think my essay/application was pretty good and im involved in a lot of extra curriculars.i have leadership roles and internships/work experience all on my resume, however, i am especially worried since umd seems random in their selection sometimes and will deny someone with a relatively good gpa and sat but admit someone with stats like mine. please lmk what u think because i am super stressed about this!!
@blue2000 I think your SAT score is something that can hold you back but your honors is definitely a booster. I feel your chances also depend on your major, but overall you have a decent chance if you have appropriate reasons for your downfall in those few tests. All the best!
@blue2000 your SAT score is on the low end. Is the math component around half of the total or lower? Are you in state?
My math was a 600 and yes I’m in state
Thank u hopefully it all works out! I applied as a computer science major
@WilliamNYC Could you chance me as well real quick.
I posted my details a few comments above. Thanks!
@xtreme22 I’d be shocked if you don’t get in. You sure are aware that on paper you have stellar credentials. But the only opinion that matters is the one of the admissions people. Chance me discussions are kind of useless, unless people need to be helped because they’ve put together a very bad list of schools. For example an SAT1300 candidate only applying to highly selective schools and 1 uninspiring safety school. That person would benefit from asking this group. A chance-me post for one specific school doesn’t provide much value, OP can also look up middle 50% SAT range and realize where they stand.
@WilliamNYC Makes sense. Sorry but I am a bit tensed as I have been recently rejected from UIUC. I was hoping I would at least get deferred so now I’m a bit worried about all the colleges I applied to. Just taking opinions to make me feel better!
UIUC has a very high 75perc for math @xtreme22 … I can imagine that it’s difficult for an OoS applicant to get in… Good luck and enjoy the holiday season w/o too much stressing!
@WilliamNYC Yup that’s true. Thanks and same to you!
At this point, I feel like I’m not even going to get in…
it’s my second choice. I got in my first choice.
What is your first choice @IApplied23?
Where do we get the decision? From coalition app?
When do decisions come out and where do we get them?
The UMD website states that decisions will be released “By February 1, 2018”. They often come out a few days before that. Last year’s decisions were released on Friday, Jan 27. I expect that they will be posted on the Coalition App portal
How are the decisions released? Mail, email? Since they only use coalition, I don’t think there is a decision page there. If I go into UMD portal, regarding application, it always sends me to coalition page.
I really don’t know. This is the first year that UMD used the Coalition App. I expect that UMD Admissions will use Twitter or Facebook to tell you where to see the decisions

What are my chances of getting into UMD as a biology major? Honesty is appreciated
@mamd1822 Well, Bio is a limited enrollment program at Maryland…so that makes it tougher.
Are you in state? If you are in state, what county do you live in? How big is your high school? Class rank? What is the highest level of math/science you have?
Last year UMD’s average GPA was like a 4.2…I’d say you have a good, fighting chance but this school is no longer a safety for anyone!
