Did anyone receive this email below? My son received it and when you click on the “Thanks for your interest” it takes you to the enrolled section of the website. Maybe its just wishful thinking but just curious.
Thank you for your interest in the University of Maryland! We look forward to connecting with you soon with information on admissions resources, events, and deadlines.

do i have any hope of getting into freshman connection??? UMD is my top choice.
In- state
GPA: 3.88 (my school does not weight)
SAT: 1140 (did take it 6 times, ACT twice and SAT four times, each getting the same exact score of 1110, I did send all of the times I took it so they can see that I tried but I do realize my scores are extremely low)
Major: education
extra-curriculars: super strong–> president of the school, class representative (9,10), musical all 4 years and this year is the lead, triumphants, camp counselor, community service, club head for Students Against Drunk Driving, chorus (this is not even all of them)
essay: about my mom that passed away this summer from breast cancer, I used the metaphor of a chipped tooth and compared her death to my missing piece of my tooth, since I was missing a key to my happiness
recommendations: I would assume good, I had 3
I realize my scores are super low but I really would love to get into freshman connection and wanted to know if it was worth having any hope at all!!! Help!
@ars457, I am so sorry about your mom. I don’t know enough to even try to chance you, but I am sending good thoughts your way. I’m impressed that you kept making the effort to improve your test scores. Fingers crossed!!
@ars457 I think some of it will depend on what county/school you come from. If you want to provide more info or PM me you are welcome to. I’m so sorry about your mom.
@ars457 I’m sorry to hear this. It really is so hard to chance; especially for Freshman Connection because that data isn’t available. Good luck to you!!
Thank you all! I go to a private school in Baltimore County, our school does have some connections to UMD and another school that has a 90% acceptance rate with UMD also advocated, so I am hoping that will help since my scores are so rough!
@WilliamNYC Yes, so did I. That’s a pretty big detail to leave out lol. The other thing that was different about this email is that there was not an option to “unsubscribe” at the bottom like most of their marketing emails. Again- probably just wishful thinking but figured I would ask.
@ars457 I’m so sorry for your loss. I wish you all the best in the application process, based on your ECAs it sounds like you will be very successful no matter where you go to college! A good friend’s son got in through freshman connection this past fall as an in-state student, and when she spoke with the admissions counselor it sounded like he was right on the cut between freshman connection and regular fall 2017 admission. His SAT score was 1260, which was right at the cut between full acceptance and freshman connection, he had a 3.9 UW GPA, but had very little in the way of ECAs - certainly not as many as you do. It sounded to me like he was on the higher end of those accepted through freshman connection, in case this info is helpful.
Umd is definitely my top choice School
Would really like to hear opinions on my chances honestly is appreciated

Not sure yet how UMD will inform candidates @FwiendGuy and whether that will be done through the portal. At this time we have not been informed of a different UMD portal to register with or check.
