UMD College Park class of 2022 EA discussion

I’m not sure what’s going on but has anyone still not received their decision yet?

Did anyone receive an acceptance package in the mail? Was accepted into honors program on coalition and am just curious if Maryland also sends a physical copy

Finally heard back a week later!!
Decision: Accepted FC
Major: Education
SAT: 1140 (super low, i know)
ACT: 22 (tests were most definitely my weaknesses)
UW GPA: 3.88
Rank: N/A, our school does not do it
AP: AP Lit, AP Psych
Extracurriculars: President of the school, musical, play, stage crew, choir, club head, community service, campy counselor, yearbook, peer tutor, peer mentor, tour guide, and more
In-state
School-type: Private
gender: female
essay: about my mom (she passed away from breast cancer over the summer), i compared my chipped tooth to the fact that I was missing a part of me (my mother) and spoke of how i persevered and went back to being a camp counselor the next week
Other colleges I have heard from: Salisbury (accepted), Towson (accepted), Indiana (accepted), Delaware (accepted), Penn state (accepted)
Cannot wait to be attending UMD!!! GO TERPS!!!

@MintxPeach
Still waiting for my decision as well.

@ny1517 Where did you find out that you can fill out the housing form without committing to UMD? By housing form, did you mean the agreement found here:
https://mydrl.umd.edu/MyDRL3/Student/HousingAgreement/

or is there another?

not sure if that link will work (I was logged on, may be specific to my s account) The page is titled “CAMPUS-HOUSING AGREEMENT › NEW”

Just curious–I did not see anything explaining about the 7/1 commitment date.

My D finally heard back. She is in!
Decision: Honors college.
Major: Bio
SAT: 1520 (Or 1530 can’t remember the super score)
SAT subjects tests: wasn’t asked for it so didn’t submit (had 2 with scores approx 750 n 1 in upper 600’s)
UW GPA: 4.0
Wtd GPA: 5.6 (approx) out of 6.0
Rank: w/in top 10 in a large public school
APs: 12 including senior yr load. scores for 7 APs so far: two were 4. Rest were 5.
EC: strong in music n volunteering. She didn’t have any time for leadership in clubs - attended as many mtgs as she could.
Work experience: Worked in real jobs with customer service since middle school.
Gender: female
Essays: Decent. From a normal teenage life. Has not saved the world; thankfully no negative life experience either.
Reference letters: I wish they wouldn’t ask (some colleges don’t). Cause the teachers groan n counselors send a generic whatever. I think she got better ref ltrs from employer and music teacher.

I hope the details above help next year’s applicants. Each year seems to get tougher. Good luck to all who are waiting for this year’s decision!

have any facebook groups or groupmes been made yet for admitted students?

@anthony185 on your admission letter there is a link to the admitted/Freshman checklist. When we went to the page my dd activated her ID & then went to the housing section. You answer some personal preference questions & then at the end you accept the terms & one of them is that you will notify UMD in writing by 7/1 if you are not attending. There is no deposit required.

@ny1517 Thanks!

Thank you @BethesdaDad for the merit experience info. We are OoS and wondering if we will be offered anything. There will be no need based aid coming our way. My D got into the honors program at university of delaware with a nice merit award. But the acceptance to Merrill College of Journalism is very exciting even without honors or scholars. Hard to make a decision and compare when you don’t know the numbers yet.

which honors program is best for someone premed?

Guys, I have submitted an application to UMD for the regular decision round on 17th Jan, but haven’t received a confirmation mail or portal generation mail from the university. Also, I have sent a mail about the issue to the undergrad office but haven’t received a response. Can someone please help me with what to do next!

UMD does not send out application confirmation emails

For those considering FC, I just wanted to share my daughter’s experience (class of 2020). She loved it, and many of her fellow oos freshman friends were also in FC. There was really no discernible difference for her. She lived in her first choice dorm, and her roommate was not FC. The later classes suited her—in fact, she’s since continued choosing later classes even though she didn’t have to after the first semester.

The only drawbacks were the FC advisors who steered her—and a few FC friends—wrong. For example, they unknowingly placed her in a much more difficult bio class that was unnecessary. When her regular advisor later asked why she took “the hard bio,” she was annoyed, especially since she got a B. There were also many times when other campus activities conflicted with her evening classes, and she was disappointed that UMD wasn’t more sensitive to this. The biggest difference at first was the orientation, which was separate from the Fall orientation. Since the FC advising was done by appointment on the phone, the orientation is only one day—no overnight like the Fall admit orientation. That said, she ended up meeting one of her best friends at the FC orientation, so it worked out.

I hope this info helps some people with their FC decision. We were very confused 2 years ago, so I wanted to share our experience. Definitely check with UMD, though, as some of these protocols may have changed.

@SoofDad So how do students check the portal?

I have no idea how the Coalition portal works. My D applied 4 years ago. From what I can tell by reading posts on here, other applicants this year have been able to go back into the Coalition portal and see what application material was received by UMD and when their applications are complete.

@colorful123 Please see the UMD Admissions FAQ

Has anyone OOS got their mailed acceptance letter?

Still haven’t received in state mailed acceptance letter.

@colorful123 if you go on coalition portal under UMD you will see your admission checklist. If you open that up it will show you the date they received everything & an application complete date.
