@grndad Thanks a lot for the help!!
@Edi113 Hey, I’m not sure what’s going on with your decision but I found out that my decision didn’t come out because my counselor messed up when she sent my transcript. Maybe that’s why you haven’t gotten your decision yet?
@ny1517 Thank you for the help!
@MintxPeach I will contact the admission office again today to find out what’s wrong with my application. In your case, are they considering you for regular decision now?
We had problems with Coalition so Admissions ended up sending offer letter by e-mail. It was well worth the wait as they offered our son a spot in the Honors College and Engineering. He’s very excited! Feeling blessed and very proud! (In-state, top public, UW GPA:3.85, W GPA: 4.6, SAT: 1480 (not superscored), can’t remember SAT subject matter scores in math and Chem but they were great), 12 APs (4s and 5s), 4 year varsity athlete, Eagle Scout, lots of volunteer hours for various honor societies, clubs, etc … so proud that he will be a Terp! Thank you UMD!!!
I don’t remember who had questions about FIRE, but for those interested http://www.orientation.umd.edu/VirtualFolder/FIRE.pdf
So I was admitted for Spring 2019 and my major is Public Health Science. I know Public Health is not a LEP program, however, Finance is. What do I have to do to change my major from Public Health to Finance? Do I have to wait later to do an internal transfer as a second year/third year?
@terp22222 Finance is a LEP, so you would have to be accepted. Since you have been admitted for Spring, the chance of getting accepted to SMITH is slim right now. However it can’t hurt to try…I would do it now while they are still reviewing regular decision applicants. More likely than not you will end up in Letters and Sciences with an advisor that will help you to work toward the gateway requirements to transfer to Finance later.
Has anyone else been having trouble logging into the MD portal? D was able to set her password and get in once. Every time since, she has gotten the message that her password is wrong. She has changed her password 3 times, then when she tries to login with the new, confirmed passwords, the system tells her the new password is wrong as well.
How are we supposed to log in to the UMD Portal? Also, were accepted students supposed to receive something in th e mail?
@terp22222 Enrolled students can apply to LEPs after successfully completing “Gateway” classes (minimum score required).
(FROM http://www.lep.umd.edu/bmgt-lep.pdf): Transfer Admission Requirements: Admission to the Smith School is highly competitive. Academic record, co-curricular involvement, leadership experience, and honors and awards are considered in the admission decision. Students are strongly encouraged to submit a resume and letter detailing their
accomplishments and experience with their applications.
Students are accepted on a space-available basis after completing the following gateway courses:
• Completion of BMGT 220 and 2301, or 2312 (or equivalent) with a minimum grade of C•
Completion of MATH 120 (formerly MATH 220), 130 or 140 with a minimum grade of C- or
above
Students may begin to apply for admission during the semester in which they will earn 45 cumulative
credits. Applications are due on/before March 15 for the fall semester, and October 15 for the spring
semester. Applicants who have earned 45 credits and completed all required gateway courses at the time
of their application are notified of their admission decision in early April for fall admission and early
December for spring admission. Students who are in the process of completing the required gateways or
accumulating 45 credits at the time of their application are notified of their admission decision after the
semester has ended and final grades for the semester have been calculated.
A minimum grade point average of 3.0 in all college coursework is required for consideration for all
internal and external transfer applicants.

@JMRome By “UMD Portal” do you mean the “Coalition App”?
@MESMES No, I mean the accepted students portal…the one where you use your UMD ID and set up a password. My D did that, and hasn’t been able to log in since. It’s the one referenced earlier in this thread.
@JMRome Thanks! Did your D accept her offer and commit to Maryland?
'…earlier in this thread…" LOL…its 85 pages/1200+ entries long - admit I didn’t go thru it all…
I hope she’s been able to log on ok
@MESMES Yeah, I know, and I’m on my teblet so I didn’t go back either.
@MESMES and now CC only posted the first part of my reply above.
That’s ^ tablet.
Interestingly, we tried logging in to MD’s portal on all the computers in the house (there are 4), but the only place I was finally able to login was on my tablet last night.
D hasn’t committed yet. She got into CIVICUS for Bio/Neuroscience but no honors or scholars. She got nice offers with honors from some other schools, so we’re waiting to see if UMD comes through with merit for her. Also waiting for some more decisions from other schools. Cost is definitely a factor for us since she is planning to go to med school. Meanwhile, we’ll visit UMD again, since the first time she saw it she was in 9th grade when we went to check it out for my son. She liked UMD so much then that it stuck with her.
@JMRome
My son called UMD admissions on Monday. They specifically confirmed for him that he should not create his UMD portal account nor sign up for housing until after he makes the decision to commit to attend UMD. While others on this thread have given different direction (sign up for housing anyway…) that’s not what the university admissions department told us directly. I suggest checking directly with them. That may be the cause of your login woes - perhaps they are trying to tighten up on people getting onto housing lists etc before they are sure they will go to UMD.
Thanks, PA_Mom…I thought there might be links to FinAid or other accepted students events like mother schools but apparently not.
WTH, autocorrect? ^other schools, not mother schools.
Does anyone know when merit scholarship notifications will go out? Also has the banneker/key email officially gone out to those nominated as semi-finalists?
