Received acceptance envelope and rubber bracelet today in Maryland.
@ashley676 Honors program for pre-Med is usually ILS. Integrated life sciences. In LaPlata Hall.
@Confidential4U I disagree that University of Maryland is “not selective.” UMD is increasingly receiving more and more applications from excellent students. Sure, it’s no Ivy, but it is more selective every year and many top students are not accepted at all, or are accepted into the freshman connection (evening classes for 1st semester) program. At $10,400/year instate, it’s a very attractive option for some of the best and brightest in MD.
Silly question here…
Does UMD send acceptances, rejections, etc. in the mail? Or do we have to check the portal?
We got an acceptance letter in the mail yesterday @RicFlairDrip. It’s first posted in the portal though.
@WilliamNYC I can’t see it anywhere on the Coalition portal… is there anything that is posted for you?
@RicFlairDrip it’s in the same place as the checklist button. Once UMCP posts the decision, I think there was a button that says decision letter. Then, of accepted there’s a button for decision response. Some people only could find it if they click on the checklist button… We could see it there, too.
No letter in the mail yet and we live about 40 mins from campus in state. I wonder if they are mailed out in alphabetical order? Our last name starts with S.
We are beginning of the alphabet and also about 40 minutes away and have not received letter yet.
Or it could be our super slow mail carrier, since DD applied to the same in state schools as her friends, she kept finding each of them got their decision and scholarship letters a few days before she did. She’s used to it by now, and was happy that UMCP posted results online so she could see them as soon as everyone else… Even if it took a while to load the decision letter that night
@lifegarding Nope, there is nothing that shows up for me besides checklist and view submission. I guess they haven’t released all decisions yet?

@RicFlairDrip I think they’ve only released decisions for people who applied by the priority decision date, which was Nov. 1. I’m not sure how long it takes to hear for regular applications. Plus, DD received an email from UMCP once her decision was available. My guess is they will first contact by email for regular decisions, too.
@Astro77, If it helps to know, in the days before online access to admissions, Maryland didn’t send out impressive big envelopes even way back when I was admitted. Yes, I still have my admission letter in my college scrapbook (so, I really do get the sentiment of wanting that photo op for posterity!). Back in my day, it was a black and white standard letter (no colorful official letterhead) that apparently was run through a computer that added my name and major in the singular standard computer font of the day, and the toner didn’t stand up as well over time as the preprinted ink! It also included a small brochure about “orientationadvisementregistration” since that was also before the days of internet access…lol
@maryversity I too got the same type of notice from my college back in the pre-Internet days, lol.
Guys I am an international applicant who turned in my app on 15 Jan 2018, when can I expect a decision ?
Son got his letter today. Looks like USPS marked it “P-Due” and a line through the stamp. I think UMD may have not included enough postage. Standard letter with yellow wrist band.
DD got her letter today, too. She was excited to receive it because she has many of the red UMCP wrist bands but didn’t have a yellow one. But, she did not replace the original Coalition app version displayed proudly on our refrigerator with the new mailed letter, since the online decision letter is more personalized with scholars and her major information.
Still no letter here in NJ.
standard letter and wristband in NJ today
Letter received in NY.
