Yep, we got the letter in NY yesterday too.
Anybody received another letter with scholarship information already?
I live the next county over from CP and my daughter just got a very generic admittance letter with rubber thingy yesterday. The letter on the coalition app from January 26th was specific to her and to what she was admitted - plus we actually got a handwritten note from admissions and a letter from the scholarship people last week in the mail, well before this thing yesterday that could’ve gone to anybody. It didn’t tell us anything so I’m not really sure why they bothered.
@klbmom18 Non-majors can definitely participate in the music program. My S started as an EE major and did Chorale as well as Opera chorus both semesters. At the end of Freshman year, he add a vocal minor and at the end of his sophomore year, he added a vocal major. He’s currently a junior EE, but freshman/sophomore in music. He’s adding an extra year. Auditions are always during the week just before classes start. For both, I’d suggest your child contacting the department and maybe get on an email list.
Sadly, although our D got Spring acceptance, she was rejected by the School of Music. She currently has 2 acceptances elsewhere with scholarships and we’re waiting for 3 more and still have 1 more audition.
Hi everyone, does anyone know when UMD is releasing Regular Decision results or have any idea? Please let me know! thank you!
@ijh0828 thank you. I’m sorry your daughter received bad news. I hope her other options produce lots of offers!
what did the letter say if you were accepted into fire?
Ours said: “…I’m thrilled to offer you admission to UMD and the First Year Innovation & Research Experience (FIRE) for Fall 2018.”

@RicFlairDrip per admissions website, by April 1st
Check out this really cool project that FIRE students are working on…http://terp.umd.edu/from-vr-to-v-art#.WoebjHBOmEc
@WilliamNYC waiting on merit $ too and have been told that UMD doesn’t award heavily at all by 3 relatives that are alums.
@camcam2022 Haha, make that 5 - you can add me and my son to the list of alum that say UMD doesn’t “award heavily” for merit money. However, we will also tell you that we have NO regrets about choosing Maryland despite far more significant merit offers elsewhere…
At the time, I considered that it was just plain stupid to not go for the most merit money. But then we compared things at a far deeper level. At the end of the day, Maryland was the best choice for my son, an engineer.
However, everyone needs to make their own choices and I will tell you that it’s not the school that you attend that makes the difference, as much as what you do when you get to that school that counts. I stand by that belief without fail.
While you consider your options, just for fun, check out this thread http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-maryland-college-park/1743639-things-to-love-about-maryland-p1.html
Best of luck in the decision process!
Does anyone know how to request a roommate? I put my deposit in and I began to fill out the housing and dining forms, but I did not see a place to request a specific roommate.
@mattg1229 - Both students must sent an email to ResLife requesting each other. They will cover this in the Reslife session on Admitted Student Day.
@klbmom18 She has received acceptances and two definite scholarships. It’s really okay as this allows our kids to have their own unique experiences. Off to IU next week for a final audition. She was accepted into IU, but now awaiting their School of Music. Best of luck to your student!
@camcam2022 My son attends UMD and got a President’s Scholarship. There are also plenty of other scholarships that your student can apply for once they are there.
In another thread @NusaDua reported that the FALL 2018 Class Schedule has been released. Here is the link for anyone who has enrolled or will be enrolling.
Has anyone received any notification for scholarship awards yet? Also, any notification on what program you received for Scholars?
No notification of any scholarships yet or which program for honors. I don’t think any of d’s friends accepted into honors or scholars have heard anything about scholarships or which program either.
