Same issue here. Not sure why this could happen. Seems very irresponsible to put kids through this. A quick email explanation would be nice.

Purdue:
When we visited Purdue, we were impressed by the Aerospace Engg facilities and program.
Spoke to 2 students there - they spoke highly of the program and job prospects.
UMD:
No idea
Suggestion:
Reach out to current students at both colleges.
Talk to them and get a view on your questions.
If these become your final two, it may be worth visiting both and understanding where your kiddo feels at home.
Bottom line: You cannot go wrong with either.
