UMD students

So I am in 12 grade and so far I have a gpa of 2.0 (I have family problems which made it to be a 2.0) don't get me wrong but I studied but I cannot seem to focus. Students from UMD may you tell me how you got in I really want to know I really want to go there to study.

Do they look at my senior grades or over all grade?

You haven’t given your SATs etc. I’m not a student there however, your GPA is way too low. Sorry. You might be better served by going to a community college for the first 2 years, then transfer to a university. If you did this in Maryland and your grades improved enough you could get into UMaryland after all.

They’ll look at both this year’s grades and the grades from the past 4 years or equivalent to US High School.

Perhaps you need to think about improving your concentration before college. Maybe your family problems will still be a problem even if you’re many miles from home? However depression is a different matter entirely.

Presuming it isn’t depression you need to really need to give yourself a kick up the proverbial. It’s super hard, yes, but other students have got through college while dealing with homelessness, severe illness, disability, as refugees from war zones. Google their stories and see them as inspirational- tell yourself you can and will succeed regardless and put the work in. Learn study skills and how to manage your time.

yes I have stress and depression and wish they can just go away. I really wanted to start and end my classes at UMD but if things cannot go well then, as you said, I have to go to a community college(which I really don’t want).

I will be taking both the ACT and SAT on December, 1400-1660 is what I am going for. My first SAT was 1000.

This isn’t to be mean. I’m just trying to give you an honest opinion. You have almost zero chance of getting into the university of Maryland. Even if you achieve your target SAT, you will be below the 25th percentile of students entering Maryland and your GPA is way too low for admission unless you got a 2200+ SAT with amazing extracurriculars. I would look at community college or colleges of a lower tier caliber and then try and transfer in.

That’s fine I want honest answers here, sorry to ask so many questions but do community college take anyone in or there has to be a gpa of 2.0 to go in and also if i pick a community college that is out of state can I enroll? If so will I have to pay the same amount of money as in state student or is there an for out of state payment?

As you can tell I will be the first child to go to an American college.

I think admission into most community colleges is guaranteed as long as you are willing to pay, but I’m not entirely sure. It may depend on the school. As far as going out of state, you can still enroll, but you might have to pay out of state tuition which is higher than in state(I’m not familiar with community policies). Good luck when applying!

thank your for your help
