I need help making my final decision.
Although Maryland seems to be the best choice for engineering, I also have interest for accounting in which Osu ranks higher.

I got into all schools and have only received my financial package from Pittsburgh which was about 12k.

Oh yeah, I'm from Maryland and I am African American.

If there’s any way you can, you should choose Maryland, based on your list of four schools.

OSU Business might be ranked a bit higher than UMd, but I think UMd is better - for instance Umd’s Econ dept (not part of the business school) is better than OSU’s.

For math, physical sciences, and engineering UMd is better than the other three on your list. You may find more sources of financial aid at UMd down the line, besides saving on housing.

I assume that OSU means Ohio State, not Oklahoma State nor Oregon State. Given that, here is my take:

Pitt is an excellent school and is located in the best city on this list. IF… it is also the cheapest, then I would make it the highest preference, unless you are serious about accounting, or hate cold weather (see below).

Ohio State is the only school on your list which is accredited for accounting by the AACSB.

The winters at Penn State, Ohio State, and Pitt are pretty bad. If you do not like cold weather, then Maryland gets bonus points.

Penn State and Ohio State are absolutely insane about football. Out of this world bonkers! If football is less important to you, then those schools are less consequential. If you do like football, OSU gets the nod. It will be a better team for the foreseeable future.

Also, Penn State is nothing but Penn State… no true surrounding city. You will live and breath PSU 24/7.

Regarding engineering, all of these schools are excellent. None is elite in engineering (compared to MIT, Stanford, etc…) Unless one of them is a standout in your preferred discipline, then that really should not be a factor.

Actually, even for football, Pitt is a great choice… The Steelers! Talk about enthusiastic fans. Holy mackerel, they love their Steelers. Plus Pittsburgh has the Pirates with their marvelous new stadium, and the Penguins hockey team. So, Pittsburgh is the best option for a sports fan… with the added advantage that you have the choice to take it or leave it. Penn State and Ohio State will not let you choose to ignore football.

Thanks, i just got several more of my financial package and Pittsburgh and Maryland is the same cost; however, Ohio state and penn state didn’t offer as much… Pls can you help me compare the two

Start a thread called Pitt vs. UMD, you’ll get TONS of replies. Don’t forget to state in your original post what you want/don’t want in a school, and that costs are similar.
