UMD vs UW Madison

I have been accepted to both UMD and UW-Madison for computer science. I am Out of State for Both(NJ). Madison end up being like 4k cheaper (24k vs 28k).

My goal right now is to work for a software company in a major city(silicon valley would be nice), and I might consider grad school in the future. Also my dad is a alumni at Maryland he has many friends down in that area, while Wisconsin is more of a new different area of the country for me.

What’s your parents’ budget? Where would the difference come from and what would it mean to your family?
(Avoid Parent PLUS loans/co-signed loans - can your parents pay 20K out of pocket?).
Both universities are excellent for CS, so you can’t choose wrong in terms of academics. However, environments are quite different.
Madison is a TOP college town, College Park is meh… but College Park is near DC.
Did you apply to the Honors Program at Madison? (If not, try to). Did you get into Honors at UMD?
Are there Living Learning Communities you’re interested in, at either university?

My family can afford the price of each. I did not get into honors or scholars at UMD.

Go with fit.

Can you apply to Honors at UW?
I’d say to go with Madison. The best time to live in a college town is when you’re in college. (Should be logical :p)

Yes I got offered to apply for honors at UW.

Do it then.
I’d go with UW in that case.

What do you feel ? Any preference?
